  • A friendly city

Well preserved and peaceful city. It's worth knowing, it's a pity that you usually make the beat and return from São Luiz and in the time between the boats almost all trade is closed, opening after 15:00h. On Sundays it's hard to find open restaurants.

The city is a grace, a kind of place that stopped in time, many old mansions, some in ruins, including; we departed from Cais da Praia Grande (São Luiz) at 7am and returned at 16am; the crossing is done with a catamaran and the sea was quite agitated - I confess that I felt a little fear; We passed the bells, we entered the museum (free) and the House of Aerospace Culture; we passed through 3 churches, but they were all closed, a pity. We take advantage of going to the beach of Itatinga (worth it).

Historic beauty, but infrastructure leaves little to be desired. I visited Alcântara on an excursion from St. Louis and, although the city is beautiful — with preserved ruins, historic mansions and amazing landscapes — the experience as a whole was frustrating. The sea crossing (22 km) was made in a overcrowded boat, with passengers standing and sitting on the ground. The balance of the boat was intense, and those who have labyrinthitis (like me) can get pretty bad. Arriving in town, we were taken to a restaurant/pension called Bela Vista. The place is nice, but there were few staff and the wait for lunch was 1h45 — and some tourists didn't even get served. On the return, in addition to the discomfort, the boat still stuck in a sandbank because of the low tide. In short: Alcântara has a lot of tourist potential, but the tour needs to be restructured to ensure safety and comfort for visitors. It's a shame to see such a promising destination with so much basic infrastructure failure.

It is an interesting place to get to know by history. Access and duration of the tour depends on tide. Shops close at lunchtime. Pay attention to buying back and forth of the ferry boat, otherwise you can stay on hand, in addition, I recommend that you board with attention as you can pass the perrengue of going on foot at 1:30h of transfer. Both on the way and back I felt there was an overbooking (rs) of passages. La in Alcantara explore every street and its peculiar trade...Only be careful of the exploiters who exploit tourist. There near the museum was a place... I stayed in the corner... I can't remember the name. In the first consultation the dish cost 35...in turn turned into 45....and a can of soda 12 reais. And the food itself... well PF that 30 story would take more than paid. Taking this situation ... worth checking out.

  • It is worth visiting Alcântara. It is very interesting to know the Historic Center, as it seems like a time round.

I was very satisfied with the tour, including both the onshore part, as well as the boat crossing, on the way and back.

  • Beautiful place, but no incentive for tourism

A beautiful place to discover. It's a shame that tourism there is not favored. There is no crafts store. The churches are all closed. Of the museums I only found one open, the aerospace museum, the Casa do Divino museum, I was at this museum at 1:17 pm and the attendant said I couldn't visit as it had closed at 1 pm. Lack of respect for tourists.

CILADA, BINO! Next: Don't believe that you don't have to buy the return ticket when buying the one in San Luis. SW Embarcations sold me a ticket saying that the return was bought when arriving in Alcântara. The result: arriving there, I and another 15 people didn’t have a ticket, because the girl said they were exhausted. This happened, probably, because the Enterprise that sold us on the go had to sell everything, but had no boat back, and of course didn't tell us this "detail". To return, the options would be: taxi + ferry (will take hooooras) or sleep in the city, which we couldn't do, because we were with appointments made the next day (even if we didn't, that's an abuse!). In town, but a succession of coupons: a taxi driver (Rogerio) was pushing us the transfer pro ferry, then left us at the wrong restaurant and still went to ask for commission on the spot, saying that he had suggested us to have lunch there. Anyway, a horror show! The buildings/the city itself is beautiful, but we can't even enjoy much, because of the succession of coupons (i.e., people spoil the place). Outcome: We went to a boat that had a marked exit and we were pressured to return (well humiliated...) and we managed to board, because some people who had booked did not show up.

The crossing is already a spectacle. Upon arrival in Alcântara the charms continue. Every little piece of the place is unique and amazing!!! An open-air history class everywhere.

For those who come to St. Louis, it is worth seeing Alcântara. In one day you can make a beat and return and meet this beautiful city that stopped in time. Dumped by the national historical heritage the city is full of ruins, ancient colonial constructions, stone streets and the pelourinho, the only original of the colonial Brazil era that is installed in a public square. A city built by slaves that was left in ruins after the abolition of slavery, but was destroyed in 1948 and many of its buildings were preserved. The ruins, which once were unrealized works of palaces and mansions remain intact. A small town full of history that is worth seeing. To get to Alcântara you have to cross the Bay of St. Mark. For those who go by car, the Ferry Boat departs from the port of Itaqui to Cujupe. It costs around 80 to 120 reais depending on the size of the vehicle and the number of passengers. The crossing takes about 1h or 1h30. Try to book at least one day in advance on the official websites as the pro Ferry Boat queue can take hours to wait. We stayed about 2h in pro Ferry queue. Arriving in the port of Cujupe you have to take a road for about 55km to Alcântara. It is a tiring trip with all waiting at the harbor. I advise you to schedule and go early to enjoy the day in Alcântara. Because after the afternoon it is quite difficult to find any restaurant or trade open on the weekends. For those who go by boat and catamaran depart from the beach of Praia Grande in São Luis. Values are more accessible. The trip also takes about 1h00 and the arrival is directly in the port of Jacaré in Alcântara. Arriving there has taxi Service and motor taxi available for tourists. Some can be booked in advance via the internet.
