It was a beautiful day for a ferry ride...the boat was clean, spacious and the employees were very friendly! We liked the fact that our trip included a specific time to leave the dock, but we had many options of times to come back, so we could basically take our time enjoying the whole island of Alcatraz.

Good stuff. Mostly on your own. Snack bar on the boat with good hot dogs and nice people. Lots of flies this time of year. Mid September. But they give you fly swatters! Transportation up the hill for disabled but some areas like the yard were not accessible for disabled. Really liked Danny who ran beside the disabled train. Nice guy. Very helpful.

My girlfriend and I arrived on time. The security guard that was scanning tickets told me the ferry was full. So I had to get on the next ferry. I go to the ticket counter to get a stand by pass and they wanted to charge me. This happened to another guy and he got a stand by pass for free. I do not recommend this attraction. The staff was very unprofessional and maybe racist.

They couldn't help me before my experience. I pointed out that I had not received the link in Italian for audio guide to Alcatraz. Before the departure I was told that I should have my personal earphones and that through the link I would listen in Italian to the story of the prison. All false. Link in Italian never arrived, despite many messages and emails sent. Luckily, when they arrived in Alcatraz they gave free audio guides. Viator never again!!!!!

This was fantastic! The tour around Alcatraz was so informative and interesting… you have the option of exploring yourself or walking with a guide for about the first 15-20 minutes. He walked us up the rock stopping along the way to share fun and interesting facts. Once inside the cell house there is a self guided audio tour, the headphones and device were provided. The tour is self paced, you can pause the recording along the way. At the end there is a shop where you can buy souvenirs. Definitely a must do if you’re in San Francisco… afterwards I walked over to Fisherman’s Wharf, it was about a 10 minute walk… overall a great way to spend the last few hours I had after a week long business trip! Word of advice, get to the pier earlier than they suggest. I walked up 30 minutes prior and just made it on the ferry before it departed.
