We thought we were booking the cheapest option and paid $170 for2 tickets . This was fine until we got to the wharf and found there was a seniors ticket for $42 and the adult ticket was way cheaper than what we paid. People at the ticket office said….. ALWAYS buy at the gate because there’s ALWAYS room and there are never only 2 tickets left like they say. Lesson learned.

The tour itself was wonderful. Very interesting and fun, and super cool to walk through the old prison. The booking experience, however, was not great. After booking, I got a "voucher" emailed to me. The voucher clearly stated, "This is not your entry ticket. Your ticket and link to the audio tour will be emailed to you 24 hours before the tour." Hmm, that's kind of cutting it close. Well, 24 hours before the tour, I had received nothing. 20 hours, nothing. 15 hours, nothing. 5 hours, nothing. I was waking up in the middle of the night to check my email. Finally, 2.5 hours before the tour, I called Viator customer support, and they told me that I should have received an email. I didn't. I checked the spam. Nothing. They kept forwarding me an email with the voucher, but telling me it was the tickets. Keep in mind the voucher clearly states, "THIS IS NOT YOUR ENTRY TICKET." So, I'm freaking out. My family and I drove 90 minutes to SF and just hoped for the best, having crazy anxiety the whole time that our day could be a total bust. Thankfully, there was a person at the ticket desk at the dock, and they were able to look up my booking, and they let us on the boat. Then I had anxiety that we wouldn't have access to the audio tour because I never got the link for the audio via email. Luckily, they handed us the audio tour devices and headphones when we got there. Overall, the biggest issue was the phrasing of the confirmation and voucher. Had it said, "present voucher to the ticket booth for entry." I wouldn't have worried. But I was terrified we were going to be turned away. This will likely be my last time using Viator for booking. But for those wondering about Alcatraz? Fantastic tour. Have fun.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed Alcatraz. It is very well done! A few confusing things about directions- you do go to the ticket area. That is where boarding takes place and you don’t need your own headphones and ohone for the audio tour. Very misleading but once there - it was wonderful. There is a lot of walking, you will get your 10,000 steps in, but you can take your time. I did notice there is transport for those that need it. Overall - highly recommend and also recommend the organization to update their information.
Be ready to spend 3 hours...

Amazing tour. Very easy to book. Once at the ferry terminal, everything ran smoothly. The tour itself was very thorough. Would recommend!!!!

That if you are handicap they take care of you all the way until you get back on the ferry. They allowed people to take up all the handicap seats on the ride back

Trip advisor blocked my review so lets try this again. You are wasting your money if you use this company. Instead of booking through trip advisor just go to the counter and save yourself $50 bucks each. The tour is great by the way. But you can get it half price by not booking on line.

The tour of Alcatraz was very interesting and informative. The audio tour and the photos gave historical information in a very accessible way . There were also talks which were about specific topics. We spent several hours walking around.
