Dam Square
1. The dam, Also known as the City built on trees: Due to the soil in Amsterdam consisting of a thick layer of fen and clay, some buildings in the city are built on wooden poles that are fixed in a sandy layer that is approximately 11 meters deep. Since the old days, the houses in Amsterdam were known to have been built on wooden foundation piles that are driven deep into the clay, peat, and water until they reach the first layer of solid sand.

Catherine was our guide, and honestly I want to give her a million stars! She was so knowledgeable and made the tour so interesting! We were lucky and only had 3 in our group but I think the smaller the better. She gave so much info about the red light district, the area around it and the info about the career the women have. It was so amazing

We had this tour after having been in Amsterdam for a couple days. My wife had never been through the Red Light District, but had seen some stray windows as we walked to our locations. She asked me lots of questions, almost all of which I couldn’t answer. Thankfully, Robin could. He did a great job providing the history of the city, as well information on how the RLD began, grew, and what’s ahead. We learned about coffeeshops and other unique aspects of the city. I highly recommend the tour!

Very exciting and informative. I'm afraid it rained. Nevertheless, the tour is highly recommended. Varied and in-depth into history, Red Light and also Hemp Life.
