The dam, Also known as the City built on trees: Due to the soil in Amsterdam consisting of a thick layer of fen and clay, some buildings in the city are built on wooden poles that are fixed in a sandy layer that is approximately 11 meters deep. Tour guide Micaela was excellent. Good overview and facts about the red light district. Would have liked more time in the red light district vs walking in the other area.

Go on the small group tour! Much easier to maneuver because you walk around a lot and easier to hear your guide! Robin was wonderful telling us a little history of Amsterdam as well as the Red Light District history!

This was one of our favorite things we did while in Amsterdam! We had the chance to tour with Robin (who is a native to Amsterdam) and he gave a good history of the city as well as an overview of the Red Light District. Afterwards, Robin provided his own personal recommendations of what to do or eat around Amsterdam. Genuinely loved the tour and would recommend it to anyone visiting!

Sophia was a great tour guide. She was knowledgeable, great English, easy to follow. We took this tour to learn the history of how this district started etc. I’m glad we chose an early evening time frame.
