For cheese lovers, this tour is the perfect way to enjoy Amsterdam. Begin with a 2.5-hour walking tour through the historic streets of the city center, guided by an expert who reveals how a small muddy village on the Amstel grew into Europe’s leading trading hub. Along the way, hear captivating stories about prostitution, drug decriminalization, and the city’s darkest chapters during the Nazi occupation.

The experience continues with a 1-hour cheese tasting at the prestigious Old Amsterdam shop, where you’ll sample five varieties of Gouda paired with carefully selected wines. This gastronomic experience blends history, tradition, and flavor in one of the city’s most iconic cheese locations. We always aim to schedule the tasting at 1:30 pm, but in some cases, it may take place later.

Afterward, enjoy free time to keep exploring, visit world-class museums, stroll Jordaan, or relax in a canal-side café.

What To Expect

Beursplein, the square where we will start our tour, so called because it is located next to the stock exchange. Our guide will be waiting for you in front of the Cafe Bistro, next to the bull figure, with a blue umbrella or a tag with the Amsterdam Guides & Tours logo.

We had an incredible walking tour in Amsterdam with Claire! She was extremely knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories and insights about the city that brought its history and culture to life. Claire also went above and beyond to make the experience enjoyable for our family—she was so thoughtful and accommodating with our baby, which made the whole tour stress-free and fun. On top of that, her great sense of humor kept us laughing and engaged the entire time. Our guide, Rafael, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We learned a lot about the history of Amsterdam. Since our cheese tasting time could not be accommodated we were given the choice of a canal cruise with wine and cheese, which we did. The canal cruise was great. We really enjoyed it. Unlimited wine and cheese and a friendly knowledgeable crew. Great day getting to know Amsterdam.
