Avebury Stone Circle
You will be collected from your preferred pick-up point in Bath and will be driven to the small village of Avebury in a private car. Avebury is home to the world's largest stone circle which dates back to approx. 2600BC. With your guide you will explore the remains of this ancient stone circle and your guide will explain about its history and the latest discoveries. At Avebury you are free to wander among the stones and touch them. Some people can sense great energy from the stones and today it is a popular place for New Age spiritualists. After visiting the long barrow we will continue to a historic English pub for lunch.
West Kennet Long Barrow
After exploring Avebury we will continue to the West Kennet Long Barrow which is one of the oldest pre-historic monuments in the country, built over 5,600 years ago! It is a communal tomb which once housed the remains of a number of individuals. Today it is one of the best examples of a pre-historic chambered tomb and should you wish visitors can go inside.

My wife and I took the Bath Insider Tours "Ancient Britain Tour" with local guide Dan Hancock. I've studied and been fascinated by Avebury and Stonehenge for as long as I can remember, but Dan's guidance and historical commentary exceeded all expectations. Besides being a virtual fountain of knowledge regarding these and other prehistoric sites we visited, Dan was a great conversationalist and kept us entertained throughout or tour with facts and stories regarding the locales we encountered. This tour was worth every bit of the time and investment, and we highly recommend it, and Dan, to anyone with an interest in the area and subject matter.

We set up a full day custom tour with Dan. He picked us up at the Bath train station and we proceeded to have a perfect day. Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, and finally, an inside the stones tour at Stonehenge. If at all possible, do the special tour at Stonehenge - it’s positively awesome! Dan added a number of extra stops, including white horses and long barrows. Book a trip with him and relax, you’re in great hands. This is the best money you can spend - you will see things and learn things that would be very hard to do on your own. Watch out for tanks roaming the countryside, though!

Really pleased with this tour! I wanted the complete Neolithic picture and Daniel delivered. It wasn't enough to just check landmarks off a list. The opportunity to see West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill and Avebury in addition to Stonehenge really puts into perspective the level of craftsmanship and importance these structures have on the landscape of the country, and how they persist particularly on the landscapes of our mind: I've often had so many questions about these structures and the ancient peoples who created them, and I felt Daniel's commentary and knowledge helped form a framework for me to parse out answers (when they are to be had) amidst the prevailing theories and current research that exists. It's evident that there are many mysteries about stonehenge, but what isn't a mystery is the service that Bath Insider Tours provides. I never felt stupid when I realized I had wrong information, I felt it was okay to ask questions, I felt it was okay to be excited and enthused and overly intrigued and curious. I felt Daniel cared about what we were getting out of this tour rather than just going through a rote rehearsal or simply reciting things. He was kind to allow me to grab souvenirs when I could to remember my trip by, take pictures, and showed us little extra detour things that felt like we were on a journey within our trip. He really listened and tailored information towards our perspective while managing to enhance ours. I'm so glad we booked this tour. We are really grateful for the experience. Thank you for sharing with us.

I'm not one for writing reviews, but I've felt guilty because Daniel's tours were VERY good. Besides the Ancient Britain tour , he took us on a tour for gardens. I wanted to see the ancient ruins and my cousin wanted to see the different style gardens South of Bath. He knew the history of the sites and made the information come alive. Although he said he was not an expert on the gardens, the second days tours was excellent.

Daniel is an excellent guide! Extremely knowledgeable, witty and a genuine gentleman. He deserves more than a five star rating!! He showed us everything we wanted to see from Avebury to Stonehenge and places in between. When we come back we will definitely look him up for another tour.

We appreciated Daniel’s friendly and calm demeanor. He made us feel welcome right away and was sensitive to our needs throughout the day (walking pace, rain gear, bio breaks, etc). This tour is an excellent way to see several important sites efficiently without the stress of renting a car and navigating unfamiliar roads as a tourist. If we return to the region, we would take another tour with Daniel. Thank you.

We had an amazing day with Daniel as our guide! The weather was perfect (which I know he doesn't control, but it started out not so good). He took us to Avebury and the West Kennet Long Barrow. We stopped for a delightful lunch in a quintessential small British town pub and finally, saved the best for last, Stonehenge. Daniel very patiently answered ALL of our many questions (even when the answers were "nobody knows") and was great with my often overly quiet teenager, trying to get him out of his shell. I was impressed with how much research he seems to put into his tours. Very often he'd mention speaking with an archeologist or historian, or even exploring other areas on his own. For an extra fee, Daniel even ended up driving us onto our next hotel instead of taking us back to Bath which was a huge load off of my shoulders! I find myself wanting to return to Bath simply to take another tour with Daniel! 15 out of 10 day!!

Daniel provides a rich and fulfilling tour that is both entertaining and educational. He is great at engaging the whole group to ensure each takes something valuable away from the experience. We are so grateful to have added this tour into our family vacation.
