This walk takes in some of the City of London’s most impressive ancient ruins, from Roman times to medieval through to carefully preserved testaments of the WWII Blitz; some moving memorials; an open space which hosted some of the country’s most dramatic and pivotal scenes; and finally one of its most treasured churches – a survivor of many disasters and upheavals in its 900-year history. Throughout the walk the contrast between the City’s modern glass and steel structures and these almost hidden centuries-old remains will fascinate.

Really enjoyable, insightful, and engaging tour. Great energy, genuine enthusiasm for the material, good detailed knowledge, and good attention to the group. (We were composing our theoretical pub quiz questions along the way. Whose what is buried where?!) Thank you. Recommended.

Viv's tour around the city of London was brilliant. She is incredibly knowledgeable and really brought to life the different overlapping layers of history all around the area. We've lived in London for more than fifteen years and walked around the area a lot, but she was still able to show us many things we'd never noticed before, tell us about their history and weave it into the broader history of the area. Strongly recommend anyone with an interest in the history of the city to take one of Viv's tours!

Viv's guided walk through the City's Ancient Hidden Gems was an absolute delight. We loved every minute and highly recommend this! Despite a wet morning in London with an 8 year old in tow, this walk kept us all thoroughly entertained. From the remains of Roman walls to the William Wallace memorial and fascinating stories of historic churches, it was was a brilliant mix of education adventure and just enough mystery to keep us hooked. A perfect way to turn a soggy day into a memorable one. Thanks Viv, for a brilliant adventure through the ages.

Viv was one of the best guides I’ve ever had and even though I’ve never really been much of a history ultra fan the tour was really really interesting and kept me engaged the whole time. I’ve been living in London for 7 years and I still can’t believe all the hidden gems that Viv showed us all in places where I had already been. I would definitely recommend both tourists and locals to give this tour a go.

Excellent tour. Viv is an excellent storyteller and guide, she kept my attention the whole time and even added a few extra stops. I learned lots about the history of London and couldn’t believe that I’ve passed by so many times without knowing the meaning of the landmarks. Would definitely recommend to anyone curious to know more about London.

This is a fantastic 90-minute walk! It was an engaging mix of Roman ruins, medieval history, Blitz stories and hidden memorials – all set against the City’s modern glass towers. The church at the end was a real highlight. Fascinating and well-paced – highly recommend!

Viv’s tour was extremely enjoyable and she is clearly very knowledgeable about London’s history. She really brought the past to life and does an exceptional job of telling the human stories behind the creation and evolution of London - no mean feat given I am a Londoner myself. I’d highly recommend Viv’s your tour to anyone who would like to learn more about this amazing city!
