Exactly as described and good price. I would recommend this for a ride into Olympia. We do not like the big tours that don’t show you everything.

The tour office was just outside the port in a light blue building. Check-in was efficient. Transport was smooth. They tell you the specific time of the return bus (no options) but it was just the right amount of time. DO NOT MISS THE MUSEUM WHERE THE BUS DROPS YOU OFF! That museum (included with the entrance fee to the archeological site) was much better than the onsite museum (but do go to both).

Our recent cruise stop at Katakolo, Greece offered us the unforgettable opportunity to visit one of the most iconic and historically significant sites in the world—Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. With only one day in port, we wanted to make the most of our time, and this shore excursion did not disappoint. It was, without question, one of the highlights of our entire Mediterranean cruise. 🚢 Easy Disembarkation & Welcoming Tour Staff The moment we disembarked our cruise ship, the tour was already off to a great start. Our guide and driver were waiting right at the terminal exit with clear signage and a warm welcome. Within 15 minutes, our small group was on a comfortable, air-conditioned coach winding through the stunning Peloponnesian countryside. The drive to Olympia took about 35–40 minutes and was incredibly scenic, passing olive groves, vineyards, and quaint hilltop villages. 🏛️ Exploring Ancient Olympia Nothing can truly prepare you for the awe of walking among the ruins of Ancient Olympia. Our guide, Eleni, was phenomenal—deeply knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate. She brought the site to life with stories of the ancient athletes, rituals, and historical context. We walked through the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, once home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the Temple of Hera, where the Olympic flame is still lit to this day. Standing on the original Olympic track, we couldn’t resist a friendly “race” down the ancient starting line. It was both humbling and exhilarating to be in the very place where the Olympic spirit was born more than 2,700 years ago. 🖼️ Archaeological Museum Visit After exploring the ruins, we visited the Olympia Archaeological Museum, which houses many of the site’s most important artifacts. The statues of Hermes and Nike and the intricate pediments from the Temple of Zeus were absolute standouts. The museum was air-conditioned, well-laid out, and an essential part of understanding the full scope of Olympia’s history. 🍷 Optional Stop at a Local Winery (Highly Recommended) Before heading back to the ship, our tour included a visit to a local family-run olive oil press and winery. We were treated to tastings of organic olive oil, homemade wine, and traditional Greek snacks like feta, olives, and fresh bread. The hospitality was heartfelt, and it gave us a taste of the real Greek countryside experience. ⏰ Well-Timed & Stress-Free We were back at the cruise terminal with at least an hour and a half to spare, giving us time to stroll around the charming seaside town of Katakolo and do a bit of shopping or enjoy a coffee by the water. The tour was well-paced, educational, and never felt rushed. 💡 Tips for Fellow Cruisers • Wear comfortable walking shoes—the ruins involve some uneven terrain. • Bring a hat and sunscreen—shade is limited at the site. • Bring water, especially during warmer months. • If offered, don’t skip the olive oil or winery stop—it’s a lovely local experience! 🌟 Final Thoughts This one-day tour to Ancient Olympia from Katakolo port was everything we hoped for and more. It blended history, culture, natural beauty, and local flavor into a seamless and enriching experience. Whether you’re a history lover, a mythology buff, or just someone who appreciates seeing the origins of global traditions, this tour will leave you inspired and amazed. We walked in the footsteps of ancient Olympians, stood beneath the columns of fallen temples, and felt deeply connected to a legacy that still lives on today. Don’t miss this tour—it’s the kind of experience that stays with you forever. Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5/5)
