This is Vancouver’s only ancient big tree tour. Within walking distance from downtown Vancouver you will be guided by well known big tree seeker Colin Spratt through Vancouver’s last ancient forest located in historic Stanley Park. The tour lasts around 3 hours and in that period of time you will visit giant ancient cedars over 800 year old cedars, towering firs as tall as skyscrapers, and you will also learn about the history of the park. Using old maps, postcards over a hundred years old, and photos from Vancouver’s archive, we piece together the history of the ancient forest and the urban environment. This is a completely unique chance to experience the last remaining part of Vancouver's now lost original ancient landscape.

What To Expect
Stanley Park
Experience the last remaining old growth in the city's historic Stanley Park. Follow our expert guide to these natural wonders, including 600 year old towering douglas firs, 1000 year old wide and wondrous cedars, and the largest known maple tree in all of Canada. As we marvel at these ancient trees, we'll also learn about the ecological importance of old-growth forests and the threats they face today. You'll be told about the park's history and the original Coast Salish inhabitants who called this area home for thousands of years before it was an urban park.

5.00What a great time we had with Colin. it was a fabulous tour that I would recommend to anyone interested in nature. Colin's knowledge of the trees was amazing. His enthusiasm - infectious. My wife and I couldn't have been more impressed. And I say that as a research scientist that spent most of a 40 year career in one of the oldest marine research labs in the US. 5.00Colin is passionate, personable and extremely knowledgeable. The trees are simply amazing, the trails beautiful and the nature awe-inspiring. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves nature - despite being in Stanley Park, one of Vancouver’s most popular tourist attractions, Colin walks you through a more remote part of the park that showcases the ancient old growth forest that lies next to a dynamic urban center.
