Beautiful & Informative tour of Antigua

5.00This option was a great tour of Antigua. The transportation and guided tour were well managed. We were able to walk through and see many key sites in the city but the tour was not too physically taxing. We had enough time to explore the different stops on the tour, including monasteries, churches, the central market, and square. Also, we stopped at a jade museum and shop and learned about the rediscovery of jade in the country and its importance. The tour was very informative; our guide Ruben had a lot of local knowledge and was able to answer questions from everyone even in a large group of 10+ people. Ruben was an archaeologist and was able to share insights on Antigua from his many years of study and touring which I thought were unique from other tour guides. Overall, the tour was an excellent way to see the beautiful city of Antigua and learn about both its significance in both colonial Spanish and Guatemalan history.

4.00Armando was a wonderful tour guide for us: friendly, knowledgeable, insightful, speaking excellent English, and familiar with wonderful locations on the way to Antigua and in Old Antigua. Unfortunately, our car apparently had battery/alternator issues, and it stalled in Old Antigua, and that's why this is a 4-star review, not a 5-star review. But fortunately, Armando was able to work with the tour provider to send another car which picked us up. We continued an abbreviated version of the tour with Armando in Antigua, and then were driven back to our hotel. If the car hadn't stalled, I'm sure that this would have been a 5-star review, since we think that Armando is a terrific guide!!!

5.00The guide was high energy and passionate about the history of Antigua. He took us to many interesting places. Antigua is beautiful colonial city and the surrounding volcanoes were spectacular. Even though I have been to Antigua many times, I learned so much.

5.00GTM Tour saved the day for me. Had an Antigua day tour booked with another company (Guat2Do) and the night before cancelled with no explanation. Avoid that company and use GTM Tour Guide instead. Had already had a good experience with GTM Tour Guide so sent them a note to see if they could get me a last minute tour. They pulled it off and it has been the best tour of my entire trip. Armando was my guide and his extensive knowledge of the area was amazing. Once he found out I really liked coffee we stopped during our drive to Antigua to an amazing coffee roaster who, while closed on Saturday, opened up for just us to try some different coffees. Bought a few pounds as they made it fresh for me while I was there. While the traffic there and back was pretty bad, I enjoyed my conversations throughout the journey. Highly recommend and the owner of this travel company, Hector, made sure my needs were met. The next time I am planning a trip to Guatemala, Hector will be my first (and probably only) call. Highly recommend.

5.00Our guide was so knowledgable, and with perfect English, it was a lovely day. We had about an hour drive out, and once there we parked, and spent the day walking the lovely cobblestone streets of Antigua, with our guide taking us to all the highlights and giving a very descriptive background and history of each building, from the many churches, some in ruins, and the city square, retail areas, residential areas...and even the volcanos nearby. Highly recommended if you only have a day for Antigua!
