The tour tells the stories of the past written on Skopje's buildings. Enjoy a journey through medieval walls, Ottoman mosques and hammams, bourgeois palaces, socialistic megastructures, and eclectic contemporary facades. It involves some of the most popular touristic spots, like the old town, but also others that aren't promoted anywhere. The tour develops all the way up to contemporary times, even showcasing the current lifestyle in the city. The last part takes you out of the central urban ring, into a more residential area, where we will discuss the current architectural trends and how they are constantly affected by our society.

The fortress is the oldest point in the center of the city. Here we start with an introduction and a great view of Skopje.
Mustafa Pasha Mosque
The most beautiful Ottoman mosque in Skopje. If it is outside of prayer times, the visitors can also go inside the building.

The Hidden Gems of Skopje

5.00I am so happy that I decided to take Viator’s Architectural Tour of Skopje. I have a lay person’s appreciation of architecture and couldn’t help but notice the Greco Roman buildings from Project 2014; however, going out with a professional architect really pointed out the hidden gems within the city. The guide was well versed with Skopje in terms of historical, brutalist and urban architectural designs. He also had very interesting commentary on the impact of politics on building styles throughout history. There was so much to see in Skopje that I would’ve otherwise missed if I hadn’t done the Viator tour. Skopje can be overwhelmed by Project 2014 construction but there is so much more to see!

5.00We were caught for time so decided to only spend a few hours and got a guided tour and what a mistake we made because you could easily spend 2 or 3 days exploring Skopje. The buildings, history and mix of cultures were all explained by our guide in the few hours we had with knowledge and speed.
