Today, the Ofoten Line is both a vital transport route and a breathtaking tourist attraction.

A wonderful scenic train ride from the centre of the town. Even on a misty day the scenery was spectacular. Free coffee and chocolate available on the train was a welcome bonus .

The train ride is well organized and leads through the beautiful countryside around Narvik. The announcements in English provide interesting details about the history of the railway. If possible, sit left in the direction of travel because of the view. On our trip, the seats were changed on the return trip so that everyone can enjoy the good view once

We enjoyed the scenery and information on the building of the line. It is a 6 car electric train with no fancy frills. It does have rest rooms and coffee/tea. Seats are comfortable and on return trip you change seats with people across from you so everybody gets a chance on taking pictures. Booking it on TripAdvisor is much cheaper than a cruise ship excursion. There is a lady there that reviews your printed bar code ticket and tells you which cars to get in. Cruise line has 3 cars and general public has 3 cars. We all see the same scenery. There is good commentary on the building of the rail line. In early 1900's with manual labor. Enjoyed it.

by the time we got on the only seats left were next to a steel wall , so no views at all , unless you could try and peer over some one looking out of the window already. for us a total waste of money , only consolation was got a full refund

First, it was well organized. We had no trouble getting there. Boarding ran smoothly. The reason for my rating is there really wasn't much to see. The two stops were not impressive at all. You saw some mountains in the distance and some water but you can see that from anywhere. To me, it was a waste of time.

We loved our trip on the Arctic train. We were on a Viking Cruise and as an excursion via the company they charged over 3 the amount we paid on Trip Advisor . The experience was exactly the same except there was no bus transfer from the boat . It was super easy to either walk (15mjn) or get the provide shuttle . Narvik is a small town , maps are given as you get off the ship . It was wonderful to see the surrounding countryside from the train and the scenery was stunning The train guides were absolutely terrific and helpful and the automatic commentary fabulous

Very impressive ride with great scenery. Nice train escort. Announcements entirely in German. Much learned about the "German past" with and off the railway.

Be sure you sit on the left side of train - that is where is all the views are! And bring some snacks - there is not food on-board.

Pretty boring..wasn't what I expected. The narration was decent information but it is is mostly about WWII and that is enjoyable but limited. If the weather isn't excellent (clear) this is not a good option because you will not see the beautiful scenery. No food available during stops or on the train
