Nikolaus (apologize if spelling is incorrect!) was the best. He crammed a bunch of Athens sites into our short time together. The sites were amazing! And the food was top notch too.

Stefanos was a delightful guide and great driver. He picked us up at the port, took us on a great tour of the city, and returned us. All with great humor, tons of information and perfect timing.

Our first full day in Athens kicked off with a full-day private tour, and it was absolutely worth it. We were picked up right at our hotel by our driver, Pantelis, and accompanied throughout the day by our incredible licensed guide, Dimitris (who might be our favorite guide of the entire journey). Having an official guide is a game-changer—they’re the only ones permitted to accompany you into historical sites. Dimitris knew his history inside and out, bringing every location to life with rich storytelling and fascinating context. We learned so much—even though my dad is (obviously) brilliant when it comes to ancient Greek history—and this was my third time visiting Athens. Note: We did not visit every site listed in the posted tour description. Below is a brief recap of the highlights we did explore: • Acropolis & Parthenon – We started strong with skip-the-line access. The climb is no joke (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise—LOL), but the views and history are unmatched. Dimitris guided us through the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the iconic Parthenon, providing a fantastic history and architectural lesson! • Mars Hill – Although under construction, viewing the site where the Apostle Paul once preached with my dad was a meaningful and powerful experience. • Panathenaic Stadium – The birthplace of the modern Olympics (1896). A quick visit, but a must-see. • Mount Lycabettus – The highest point in Athens. This time we drove up (last time we hiked—never again!). The sweeping views of the city, the Acropolis, and Piraeus Harbour were absolutely worth it. • Ancient Agora & Museum – Timing matters here. I have seen the line get very long. Until the planned covered pathway is built, you are fully exposed to the Mediterranean sun, so plan accordingly. Dimitris guided us through this important historical area and the museum, which showcases artifacts from daily life in ancient Athens. • Changing of the Guard – Instead of the crowded ceremony at Syntagma Square, Pantelis and Dimitris brought us to a quiet, almost private changing of the guard at the Presidential Mansion. It was a lovely surprise. We wrapped up with a delicious lunch of pita gyros, classic Greek salad, and Baklava in Koukaki—Athens' hippest neighborhood. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot! If you're planning to explore Athens, do it right with a private guide and driver. Dimitris was a brilliant storyteller and historian, and Pantelis made sure we traveled safely and comfortably from site to site. The flexibility, relaxed pace, hidden gems, history lessons, and rich backstories made this one of our favorite days of the trip—fun and informative!

This was a great small group tour — only 11 people total. My group of 5 included two 50+ adults and three 20-somethings. We travelled together in a very posh sprinter van with cushy leather seats, big viewing windows, good A/C and plenty of bottled water. Our driver was friendly and funny, and our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of every historical attraction and the history of Athens as a democracy. She even held the attention of the younger people in our group. (When you see the long lines at the Acropolis, you’ll be glad you have the Skip-the-line tickets!) It’s hot in the summer with very little shade at the top of the Acropolis/Parthenon so it’s suggested to wear a hat or take an umbrella. The included lunch was substantial and delicious and we all ate together in a pleasant outdoor setting. We loved the comprehensive detail of the tour but also appreciated the optionality to visit the museum or have time on our own to walk around Plaka shopping district. An unexpected highlight was the changing of the guards in front of the parliament building (something that wasn’t even on our bingo card but that we will never forget.) We highly recommend this tour!
