Auschwitz is a germanized name of Polish town Oświęcim, located 75 km away from Krakow. KL Auschwitz-Birkenau is the most recognized place of mass genocide in the world. Started as a concentration camp for Polish deportees, it became the centre of extermination for 1, 5 million people: Jews, Poles, Gypsies and many others. Your English speaking guide (a local expert provided by the state Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau) will explain the historical and political background of founding the camp. Then you will visit the museum created in the original prison blocks, the gas chamber and the first crematorium. After a coffee break, the excursion continues to Birkenau which was the largest German-Nazi death camp. Auschwitz-Birkenau was included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

Our recent trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau was profoundly moving and exceptionally well organised. From the outset, Greg’s communication was outstanding — prompt, clear, and with a well‑structured itinerary that made the day run smoothly. We met our guide, Lucasz, at Auschwitz. Although Lucasz works primarily in the press office, the passion for guiding was evident throughout the visit. The depth of knowledge, sensitivity, and genuine commitment to sharing this history made the experience truly impactful. Explanations were clear, thoughtful, and delivered with the seriousness the subject deserves. As there were only three people in our group, Lucasz was able to give us access to the bunk houses at Birkenau, which added an extra level of understanding and connection to the site. This felt like a rare and invaluable opportunity. This is a trip that should be considered essential for anyone visiting the area and within travelling distance. It is haunting and deeply emotional — but that is precisely the point. As the saying goes, *“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”* This experience ensures that the past is not forgotten.
