I had an unforgettable snorkelling experience in El Nido, Philippines; thanks to our amazing tour guide Alvin from Lagum Adventure, Philippines. As someone who doesn’t know how to swim, I was nervous about going into deep waters—but he made me feel completely safe and supported throughout the entire trip. Alvin was incredibly patient, reassuring, and attentive. He explained everything clearly, provided the right gear, and stayed close by the whole time. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable. Because of his guidance, I got to enjoy the beauty of the underwater world—something I never thought I’d be able to do. Highly recommend Alvin to anyone, even if you’re not a swimmer. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

My friend and I wanted an adventure and to make the most of the amazing islands (and most remote) in the Philippines … so we booked the balabac 4 days and 3 nights. we went in the dry season month of April to avoid the wet season in May (which , as with weather, was still inconsistent). The trip averaged out to about £60 a day per person for us with all food (no drink other than instant coffee and water) and tent accommodation. Despite the amazing scenery (and a few downpours which leaves you with little to do on a remote island!) we left the trip feeling disheartened and disappointed by the whole excursion. The day started with one egg, a sausage and rice on a school tray every morning and your lunch is pre cooked seafood and or noodles with at least fruit on the side. Please note if you don’t like something one day, you will see it recooked in probably another sauce to be barely touched yet another day! I felt dearly for our local guides that captained us and were so lovely… which leads me to believe the fault lies more with the main organisers/lagum adventures (probably taking the biggest split of the cash as it certainly isn’t spent on your food!) . Although, I will note the itinerary was rather strict. For example, on the final full day we were taken to one of the furthest islands (over an hour and a half boat ride away) during torrential rain and choppy seas , among our group we all preferred to go to a closer island and/or potentially an island outside of this storm, but instead our captain refused, and dropped us at an island (known for sand flies which were even more bity on damp sand) where we sat around on for 2 hours before being driven an hour back to a sand bank that you couldn’t see as the tide was wrong ! If you are considering this , I really would save your money and the effort to get to balabac … I have also attached a picture of the breakfast (or prison rations) we were fed at 4am on our last day before our transport back. We made great friends from across the world and great memories but for £60 a day i think there is much better. Maybe with better organisation or small things like snorkel rental included if you drop us at snorkelling locations then we wouldn’t feel so ripped off! Ps you will have to pay for your own breakfast on the first day during your reckless van ride from puerto to balabac.

The itineraries in the tour were all so beautiful! I haven’t seen better beaches in the country as beautiful as Balabac beaches and sandbars. My only suggestion for the trip is to improve the food being served with more planning and effort. Most guests are foreigners so I think it would be best to compliment the tour experience with favorite Filipino dishes. The breakfast before leaving the campsite was only a slice of bread and cheese. Food should be served better than that as it leaves a lasting impression to a guest before leaving the place.

  • Balabac was beautiful but the for the price the food and organisation could be much better!

Did the 4D3N however it is more like 3D3N, the last day is just heading back to Puerto Princesa quite early... Balabac was beautiful, the marine life was incredible (the turtles were huge, what an experience), and the beaches were stunning, I loved the camp site too, you stay there for the whole stay so you can leave stuff at the camp. There is a shop for snacks and drinks and I stayed in tents which I thought left a great atmosphere! There is WiFi, they provide towels, umbrellas and fans for sleep as well. Very nice stay and what an amazing view, the sunset and sunrises are insane! However... Not very flexible with the itinerary even if it's not worth doing the stop, could have seen a whale and didn't have the time cause we had to do a 2 hour boat trip in the storm to have lunch on a sandfly infested beach, definitely wouldn't mind having to skip it to see a whale! In general the organisation is not great, arriving to places too early, such as going to a sandbar at hightide when the sandbar is in 1.5m deep of water (generally not point of going to it, would rather have been given alternative options). And again arriving an hour before low tide at a sandbar and then leaving 10 minutes before we could finally see the sandbar, just made no sense! And don't expect incredible food, the lunch and dinners were good but the breakfast was laughable.... As an alternative, if you weren't staying in Palawan for a long time but want to do an expedition, then I would recommend the Coron to El Nido tour 3D2N (I have written a review on the one I did, highly recommend). Honestly if I hadn't experienced the Coron to El Nido I think I would have been more pleased as I wouldn't have had such high expectations. Overall, Balabac was still incredible but I do just wish there was more flexibility and better breakfast, so if you are considering it just be aware of this.

WE had the most incredible time on the Balabac Expedition with Lagum Adventure! From the stunning white sand beaches to the crystal-clear waters, everything was perfectly arranged. The team was friendly, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about showing us the beauty of this hidden gem. The activities were well-planned, giving us a great balance of adventure and relaxation. A beautiful spot of earth, but it's increasingly veiled... above and below water. If this continues, it will be a dump in no later than 3 years, and the fauna will also say goodbye. In addition, the tour was organized very chaotically, some had to sleep in tents, some were provided with cabins. Despite the offer, not all snorkeling and masks were available. But we had a great troupe and spent a nice time together!

Absolutely magical experience! The 4D3N Balabac trip was the highlight of our travels. Lagum Adventure nailed it with the itinerary and local guides. Can’t wait to come back! 🌴🐢💙

We finished our tour with Lagum Adventures yesterday and had the best experience. We went in with extremely low expectations but were blown away with how amazing it was considering the number of bad reviews. From the beginning the tour guides were extremely friendly and helpful, everything ran on time and we were often the only group on many islands. Base camp was basic but great. We all had a tent with a fan, mattresses, wifi etc and many people had huts. The food was pretty good considering the remote location, but this tour isn't about the food really. We did hear that the following tour coming had 60 people whereas ours only had 30 so that could be a factor into our experience. Overall, we had the best time with Lagum and sister company Kamp Malaya and couldn't recommend it enough. Balabac is so beautiful and a must do in the Philippines.

If I could give this company less than 1, I would. Worst company I dealt with in the Philippines, this company is just a joke. I had to cancel a trip due to illness, and I did so well within the companies own terms and conditions for a refund. I am now 6 weeks after this, and I am still fighting to get a response from them. I am either ignored completely or given a we will look into it for the 5th time message. For something that should have been a simple exchange, I have had to waste countless amounts of time trying in vain to chase a company that clearly has no interest in delivering any level of customer service. Just avoid and use on of the other reputable company's avaliable. Wish I'd not bother with them.
