Part of what makes this region so unique is the number of small family run brewpubs that dot the countryside. This particular area is blessed with great rural scenery which passes through some pretty small villages. The brewpubs are from another time, simple but of great value. Regional specialties like Geräuchertes (smoked ham) go perfectly with the the very much local brews, often served via gravity dispense. These are beers you're not going to find back home and they'll have you pining for them once back there. The standard route is five miles but there are a variety of routes so please inquire about the length of each. Note that this is a private tour and can be tailored to your group's needs.

We will be stopping a number of small rural brewpubs and all food and beverages are at your own expense.
Food at brewpubs is also at your own expense.

5.00My son and I spent a day with Rich in the Bamberg countryside and it was more fun than we imagined. We were supposed to go to 5 breweries, but ended up going to ten! Three meals 17 kilometers, and 14 hours later we arrived at our hotel. We drank 15 beers and I was sober, which was shocking. We laughed the entire time and were amazed at the quality and taste of the beer. Now I know why Germans like to hike! If you want to have a once in a lifetime experience, with someone who loves what they do, then hire this wonderful man, who will throw back liters with you and order great food. The scenery is stunning as well.

5.00If you're even remotely interested in beer, a tour with Beer Wanderers is an absolute must. We recently spent a day on the Funf Seidla Steig, and from start to finish, Rich was knowledgeable, funny, and incredibly passionate about German brewing traditions. Whether you’re a beer connoisseur or just along for the ride, you’ll walk away with a deeper appreciation for the craft—and probably a favorite new brew. Great pacing, smooth logistics, and plenty of laughs. Highly recommended—prost!

5.00My wife and I spent a special day with Rich in Bamberg. He knows the town, the beer, the food, and the language. He was friendly, gracious, and allowed us to experience the city through the eyes of someone who knows it. When we are back that way we will definitely be looking up Rich again.

5.00Rich was so helpful...first, our train hit a car so we were delayed and Rich was texting me helping us navigate alternate routes. We arrived late but Rich was at the Bamberg train station waiting for us and the tour was great. We hiked the countryside around Bamberg in December, tasted some great beer (wine for my wife) and loved every minute of it. We are already booking another brewery tour for this coming December with Rich...highly recommend Rich and you should purchase his book as it is a great resource. Mark

5.00Rich was professional, friendly, communicative, and was happy to make accommodations to suit our hike. Getting to experience fantastic fresh beers from local villages was something special and the countryside was beautiful to walk through. Truly off the beaten path and Rich made sure we were well taken care of. I’ll for sure be doing another tour with Rich in the future- he’s a wealth of knowledge and made the journey approachable and fun. Even if you’re not a beer enthusiast, this is a super unique and local experience. Highlight of our trip for sure!

5.00Took a great hike with Rich to breweries and beer gardens in the Bad Staffelstein area, a short train ride from Bamberg. Beautiful area, great food and beer, and Rich took care of all the arrangements. This is a must do if you are in the Bamberg area!

5.00Yesterday we did an amazing countryside brewery to brewery hike in beautiful Franconia with Rich of Beerwanderers. He met us at the Bamberg Train Station and from there we went by train and bus to the start of our hike- a wonderful brewery in a butcher shop that made dozens of varieties of smoked and cured meets. From there we walked through rolling farmland, charming villages and up and over the Staffelberg. We stopped at another small village brewery and a small Bierkeller beside a small church with a breathtaking view of the area. When then climbed our way up to the stunning pilgrimage church, Vierzehnheiligen. A late lunch and a visit in the church capped off an unforgettable day. We then walked down into town where we caught a train back to the Bamberg train station. Rich is a fun hiking companion but more importantly- he researches every aspect of the journey. Making sure we caught the correct trains and buses on time, keeping track of the opening hours and days for the breweries and Kellers and guiding us on the correct trails in an area laced with hiking paths, was an impressive bit of logistical management. He does shorter, less strenuous hikes as well that are equally well organized. I highly recommended doing a hike out tour with Berrwanders.

5.00My wife and I had an excellent brewery tour through the Bamberg countryside with Beer Wanderers. Rich was a very knowledgable guide and gave us the local scoop on breweries in the region. He was very accommodating throughout, tailoring the experience to a longer hike at our request and even finding stops with vegetarian and wine options to accommodate my wife's dietary preferences. He also gave us great recommendations for other parts of our trip in Munich and Bamberg, and answered questions about another hike from his book that we did on our own.

5.00We had a great day hiking around the countryside and visiting breweries with Rich! He was very communicative ahead of the tour and the hike/tour was very informative. He showed us a bit of Bamberg after the beer hike was finished as well as shared some great recommendations for Munich and Prague that we used for other parts of our trip. Highly recommend!
