It’s hard for me to describe how wonderful this trip was for us. Weeks later, our ride is one of my best memories from Southeast Asia. I wasn’t sure I wanted to commit to a longer ride of the Ha Giang Loop and decided to avoid the tourist traffic and take this trip instead. From our initial interactions with Lin via WhatsApp to the end when our drivers went the extra mile (literally) to drop us off at a restaurant, we felt shepherded through this amazing experience. I sifted through many reviews of easy rider tours and lucked out to find the Green Riders! It was a long day, and a perfect one. My 15-year-old son and I took the sleeper bus from Hanoi, arriving around 0400. We were invited to sleep for a few more hours at the hostel, which we did - quite soundly. After breakfast of eggs & toast and pancakes & fruit, we met our drivers for the day, Quan and Tai. I rode with Quan and my son with Tai. I felt completely confident and safe with them all day long. Quan speaks English well and has a kind heart. My son rode with Tai for most of the time, but he kept falling asleep on the back of the motorcycle, and we switched riders. I very much respected the fact that Tai didn’t try to push beyond his limits and they both kept my boy safe :-) When I was planning the trip to Vietnam, I didn’t know what to expect with the rainy season. Despite a little rain, it was not a hindrance to our trip. The company provides quality rain gear, and the drivers are skilled in the wet weather. The sights were still beautiful, and the waterfall - spectacular! There was so much beauty to take in, and I was glad to be on the back of the bike, so I was free to look around. My tush was grateful we only did the one-day ride (covering 150 km). At the end of the day, we returned to the hostel, where we were greeted warmly by Lin and the other staff there. I am not sure if they are family, but they certainly seem like it. They also gave us a lift to a restaurant where my son and I closed out our day. A hard truth is that I did not have a great experience overall in Vietnam, but this excursion was an exception. I often felt that I/we were seen as an easy & fast way to make money. This was one of the few experiences that felt genuine and honest. I will treasure the memories of this trip with my son for the rest of my life.
