Discover Barolo — often called the “King of Wines and the Wine of Kings” — on a small-group journey from Milan into the vineyard hills of the Langhe, a UNESCO World Heritage wine landscape.
Travel in a comfortable small group with an English-speaking guide.
The first stop is Alba, the world capital of white truffles and the birthplace of Nutella. Enjoy 2 hours of free time to stroll the historic center and enjoy lunch.
From Alba, continue into the Barolo wine region to visit a family-run winery with spectacular views over the Langhe hills. Enter the traditional cellar, meet the producers, and enjoy a guided tasting of 7 wines, including Barolo, while learning about local vineyards and winemaking traditions.
The day also includes a stop at Grinzane Cavour Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by vineyards and one of the iconic viewpoints in the Langhe.
(On Tuesdays, when the castle is closed, the stop is replaced by a panoramic viewpoint in La Morra or Barbaresco.)

Alba
Alba is known for its historic charm, excellent cuisine, and the famous White Truffle Fair, held on weekends in October and November. Explore the medieval towers and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the town’s main cathedral. Browse local shops for some of the world’s best hazelnut cream, or enjoy lunch in a small, traditional restaurant serving Piedmont specialties such as fresh egg pasta and veal with tuna sauce.
Barolo
Visit a family-run winery in a panoramic setting surrounded by vineyards. Enter the cellars and learn directly from the winemakers about the production of Barolo, a strictly regulated wine made only from Nebbiolo grapes, with precise rules governing vineyard location, aging, and classification. Discover how each hill and vineyard has its own name and character, influencing structure, aroma, and aging potential. Taste at least six DOC and DOCG red wines, sometimes seven, including Barolo, during a guided tasting focused on quality, terroir, terroir expression, and local tradition.
Stop at a UNESCO-listed castle or panoramic viewpoint (Panoramic viewpoint on Tuesdays)

Stefano, our tour guide, knew everything about the history and the geography of Lombardy and the Piedmont wine region. He was well prepared to answer all questions and even took us truffle tasting!! That was such a great bonus! The wines were exceptional and really the wine tasting felt local as opposed to the corporate feel we get in the US. The small group feel made this experience feel personal. Recommend 12/10!!

I joined this small-group Barolo wine tour from Milan as a solo traveler and had a great experience overall. The tour itself was excellent. Stefano was a very professional and thoughtful guide — he made sure everyone was comfortable, introduced participants to each other during lunch, and created a friendly atmosphere throughout the day. The winery visits were well organized, the wine selection was great, and the scenery in the Piedmont region was absolutely beautiful. It was a very enjoyable and well-paced experience. One point for improvement: I received different meeting point information via Expedia and WhatsApp the day before the tour. While Stefano responded quickly and clarified everything, it initially caused some confusion and stress. It would be much better if the official booking platform and the actual meeting details were always aligned. That said, thanks to Stefano’s support, everything went smoothly in the end. I would definitely recommend this tour, especially for those looking for a relaxed and authentic wine experience.

If you’re even thinking about doing a wine tour in Italy, take this as your sign to book with Stephan immediately. His Alba/Piedmont Hills tour was the perfect mix of effortlessly cool, wildly informative, and just straight-up fun. How is it even possible to learn so much about Italian history, geography, and Barolo and Barbaresco while also laughing nonstop and feeling like you’re just hanging out with a very knowledgeable friend? Stephan has this way of making the region come alive, every stop, every pour, every hilltop town suddenly has a story you actually remember (and want to retell later over wine, obviously). And the wine? Unreal. I’m officially ruined in the best way. The whole experience felt curated without being stuffy, elevated without being pretentious. 10/10 vibes, 11/10 knowledge, would absolutely do it again. If you want a wine tour that’s equal parts chic, delicious, and genuinely memorable, especially with surprise extras and gracious hosting, then Stephan and his company are your go-to!

An absolutely perfect day with beautiful views, incredible wine, and a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. The tasting felt personal and authentic, with standout Barbaresco that were elegant and memorable. It’s exactly the kind of Piedmont experience you hope for, scenic, welcoming, and effortlessly special.

We had an incredible wine tour experience in Barolo and couldn’t recommend it more. From start to finish, everything was seamless and thoughtfully executed. Abroad Tours was a great choice. Our driver, Alberto, was outstanding—extremely professional, punctual, and made us feel completely safe and comfortable throughout the day navigating the winding roads of the region. His calm and friendly demeanor really set the tone for a relaxed experience. Our tour guide, Amato, truly made the day unforgettable. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and brought the entire Barolo region to life with his detailed and engaging explanations. You can tell he’s passionate about wine and the local culture—his energy was contagious, and he struck the perfect balance between being informative and entertaining. We learned so much about the wines, the history of the region, and the winemaking process, all while enjoying some incredible tastings and beautiful scenery. It was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. Highly recommend this tour—especially if you get Alberto and Amato. They made a fantastic team.
