We had an excellent day. Raul was all we could have hoped for as a guide. The size and terrain of the battlefield madethe whole event understanable.

Our visit took place on 21st June 2025 with my wife and another couple, we were met promptly at 09:30 by Raul, who as we were staying near the Roman Bridge in Salamanca itself we walked across the road to the bridge and he explained the action that took place there, namely the bombardment of the three fortified convents that were preventing allied access to the bridge. We then proceeded to the battle site itself, where with the use of pictures, diagrams and drawings as well as the views of the battlefield itself we were treated to a masterclass as to how the battle unfolded and the various actions that took place. The battlefield itself stretches 8.5 Kms so we were driven/walked to all areas of the site including the top of the greater Aripiles. Throughout the day Raul was an absolute mine of information and was extremely passionate about the battle and its importance in beginning the overthrow of the invader and the independence of Spain. In addition to this we had a great lunch (included) and a visit to the small local informative museum located nearby. All in all a definite bucket list event for devotees of Wellington and the Peninsula war. One word of warning however it is a very long day (8 hours) so take plenty of water and wear suitable footwear especially. Fantastic day with a great guide well worth the fee.

Excellent tour, Raul has full knowledge and geography of the battle, including a visit to the very good local museum.Presented in an easily understood manner, even a non history person would appreciate. Not to be missed.

Raul will put together a tour for you based on your needs, circumstances and special interests and quote you a (very reasonable and competitive) price. Before the tours, I informed Raul that my focus was on family history and he took care to adapt his tours to inform me of my ancestor's possible involvement and locations. We completed a tour of Fuentes de Onoro and the Siege of Ciudad Rodrigo on one day with a tour of the Battle of Salamanca the next day. Raul picked me up and dropped me off at my hotel in Salamanca on both days. The days proved to be hot - much hotter than I anticipated in April - and I found the first day quite tiring for a person of my age and level of fitness. Raul did not fail to notice this and adapted his itinerary accordingly. In retrospect, it may have been better to do the tours over 3 days but it was my personal schedule that did not allow this. Raul is extremely knowledgeable, very personable and his English is excellent. He brings history to life and his enthusiasm is infectious. A number of the information panels that you see around the sites were written by him and he has keys and access to places that may be closed. I learnt an awful lot and am now inspired to research the Peninsular War in more detail. Overall, I am really pleased that I used this private guide rather than joining a large group tour. I can only recommend Raul - ***** indeed!

Our tour guide Raul is a historian and so knowledgeable. But even more than that he gives you a feeling of what it must have been like for soldiers, officers and generals leading up to, during and after the Battle of Salamanca. He points out the implications of the terrain the communication challenges and the decisive decisions that led to Wellington's army success here and it's pivotal place in history enabling Spain's independence from Napolean. See the features of the land that were exploited by both sides and the distance involved in mobilising regiments and supplies. Every vantage point included in the tour tells it's own story.

Raul modified his tour to fit my requests so that we could see our ancestors actual path during the battle. Nice job.

My wife and I came, expressly, from Barcelona to be with Raúl (we had received very good references about his work). On both visits, (Arapiles and Medina de Rioseco) after an introduction to the period of the War of Independence, he guided us by car to the key sites, from where we could visualize and understand the battles. Raúl's knowledge of both the terrain, the movement of troops, the uniforms and the experiences of ordinary soldiers and leaders is extraordinary. He is an expert on the period, it is clear that he has studied it in depth and that he is passionate about it. Furthermore, it explains in a simple and entertaining way complex situations that occur in the chaos of battle, and takes us to the event, providing us with the precise data that will make us remember and understand what happened. Apart from his skills as a guide, the treatment was always exquisite and he answered, in the best way, all our questions. For our part, we can only recommend your visits, since there are few more gratifying experiences than listening to Raúl talk about history and, especially, the War of Independence.

I really can’t recommend Raul’s tour highly enough. My wife and I are both interested in military history. At school, I had done a project on the 43rd and 52nd Light foot Regiments, who along with the 95th Rifles made up the Light Division. They featured heavily in the Peninsula War. I had long known the name of Salamanca as a pivotal battle. Last year (2022) we visited the battlefield and the interpretation centre. I realised this wasn’t enough to understand the battle. Raul’s knowledge and expertise brought the whole battle alive. It really is extraordinary to be able to stand where the various commanders stood, to see what they would have been able to see, to understand the difficulties in communication and the scale and distance involved in the battle. From the initial skirmishes to the conclusion to the final conclusion this was an enlightening afternoon. Although I knew something of the era, it was truly a wonderful tour that broadened my knowledge and understanding.

Excellent tour of the battlefield led by the equally excellent Raul; top class tour guide who brought the events of 22 July 1812 to life.
