Observing a beaver is a unique experience. The nature is exotic and the river shallow. Paddling on stand up paddle boards is an experience in itself. It is not always necessary to have a goal, but you make experiences along the way. If we paddle a little way up the river, you will also see other animals such as goats, ducks, foxes, birds and highland cattle. We paddle in small groups of a maximum of 4 paddle boards. It is possible to be 2 persons on one board, but we recommend for every adult to have their own board. Children are welcome to sit on their parents board.
The beaver sees poorly, but hears well. So on this experience it is important to be quiet and enjoy the peace of the forest.
If you are new to stand up paddleboard, instructions will be given in the start of the trip.

What To Expect
We will paddle up Vestfosselva starting from Eiker Padleklubb. The surroundings are beautiful and exotic. There are several beavers living upriver, so the possibility of seeing one of these is high. The beaver is incredibly wary of sound. It sees poorly, but hears well. A little splash with the oar, and we scare the beaver away. When we are on a paddling trip to see beavers, it is therefore extra important to have silence and calmness in the paddling group. We paddle in small groups of a maximum of 4 SUP boards. The best time to see beavers is in the afternoon/evening. The paddling trips therefore usually start at 5-6pm, summer time, depending on when it gets dark. In winter/early spring, the trip can start at 3 pm. We look at the time and turn in time according to beaver experiences and the sunlight. The river is relatively shallow. Except at the start, where the water is murky and dark, you will easily be able to observe all the details below the surface of the water. After heavy rainfall there can be some current, but it is otherwise very calm and nice to paddle up. You will enjoy the calmness of the nature and the birds singing.

5.00I did this with my sister in April 2023.This was the best activity we did in Oslo area. Our guide was super nice and we had a lot of fun. We had some concerns in the beginning since it was our first time on paddle boards and both of us did not know how to swim. But it was super easy and very safe. Definitely recommended.

5.00I have absolutely no hesitation to say that this was the most wonderful activity I did in my trip to Norway. The guide is an excellent professional and an extremely sweet person. Though the location for this is Hokksund, you can easily do this while being in Oslo. A local train goes straight from Oslo central train station to Hokksund and the guide takes care of the rest ( pick up and drop off at train station at Hokksund). We had no experience in peddling and she was very patient with us. The views on the river were breathing, especially the sunset. Overall, this is definitely a hidden gem that gave us exactly what we were looking for, I.e. authentic Norwegian Experience
