What To Expect
Paperwork, basic theory, confined water practice
You will start with reading 5 chapters of the PADI Open Water Diver manual, which can be supplemented by watching 5 parts of the training video. After that you will need to complete 5 knowledge reviews, 4 tests and a final exam related to the 5 chapters you studied. After each theoretical block you will work together with your instructor on any unclear or difficult parts of the theory.
Nang Yuan Island
First practical application will be conducted in shallow water on the first day by learning basic diving skills, equipment assembling, buddy procedures, atc. Common place for confined session is a bay, called Japanese Garden at Koh Nang Yuan Island. Sendy aria with maximum depth is 1.5 - 2 meters among coral reefs and tropical fish.

Continue with theory, going through knowledge reviews and quizzes
Nang Yuan Island
On the second day from 10AM to 3 PM - 2 dives in open water (max depth is 12 meters). You are going to repeat your skills in open water.
Open water dives 3&4
On the third day at 8 AM continues theory and final written exam.
Nang Yuan Island
From 9AM to 2 PM - 2 dives in open water (max depth is 18 meters), you'll master your diving skills and we finish with certification procedures.

5.00I can’t recommend ScubaBirds enough – genuinely the best value scuba school on Koh Tao. From the very beginning, the team were welcoming, accommodating, and made us feel comfortable straight away. A big shout-out to Nelly, who was fantastic throughout, and also to Ilia (a really nice Russian lad doing his internship there) – he was brilliant at training us and made the whole experience fun and relaxed. Both had a great sense of humour and were incredibly patient. On our first day, we learnt how to use the scuba equipment in the deep pool, which gave us loads of confidence before heading into the sea. Then on the next two days, we went out on the boat and did two dives each day – four in total. Each dive was 49 minutes underwater, which is incredible bottom time for an Open Water course. One dive was down to 15 metres and the deepest was 18 metres – both amazing experiences. Our group was small (just four people), and we were paired into buddies, so it felt personal and safe the whole time. The equipment was top-notch, the instructors were super professional, and unlike other schools that rush you through and treat you like a number, ScubaBirds really take the time to make it personal. One of the girls in our group struggled to equalise her ears and couldn’t complete one of the dives, but they didn’t charge her extra and let her continue on the following days – which just shows how fair and genuine they are. Honestly, this is the scuba school to choose if you want the perfect mix of professionalism, fun, and real care. Thank you to everyone at ScubaBirds – you made it an experience I’ll never forget!

5.00My experience with scuba birds was amazing. Everything war very uncomplicated and well organized :) Bryan was an incredible instructor, I always felt safe and so way more confident diving thanks to him ! He added on to the whole experience and I enjoyed every moment of it :)

5.00We had an amazing time completing our open water diver course with Scuba Birds. Anatoly, our instructor, was fantastic. He supported us throughout and made each day fun and unique. I’d recommend Scuba Birds to anyone visiting Koh Tao.

5.00Just did my Open Water diving course with Scuba Birds, my instructor Nelly was amazing and I had a blast. She was serious but fun, and gave the whole group confidence to succeed in all the skills and dives. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to complete their open water diver course.

5.00Had the absolute most incredible experience at Bans, Abbie our instructor was so lovely, helpful and competent. Felt so safe and looked after learning how dive with her, and so many good local recommendations! The resort was also so ideal being close to Sairee beach and a countless number of restaurants and shops. Met a bunch of lovely people, the place is so multicultural and the diving was just stunning. Already want to come back and do my advanced training, thanks so much Abbie and Bans for the best 4 days ever (minus the early mornings lol).

5.00The top, I'm afraid I won't finish the PADI but our instructor Stephen has put us in confidence. He was patient and understanding. I took confidence and we got our PADI. The funds are extraordinary, the wildlife is crazy. We were staying at tao thong villa 2 (at the top also if you are looking for a little piece of paradise) Thanks again to Stephen. You can go now. Trust me. Be careful, if you do not understand English ask in advance for an instructor in French.

5.00As seamless and straight forward as learning to dive gets. Huge props to my friend & I’s instructor, Fransisco a.k.a ‘Sisco’, we couldn’t recommend a diving instructor more. Super chilled & patient but also direct and efficient when it’s time to knuckle down. We breezed through our open water course and became certified in just 3 days after 4 really nice dives and the whole time learning everything there is to know to dive confidently and set up dive gear on my own. Huge thank you to Scuba birds, a very well organised dive school that were very helpful from the beginning. Great facilities and equally as nice equipment to use throughout the entirety of the course. Couldn’t recommend them more!

5.00We had Josip as an instructor. Absolutely amazing experience. He was so passionate about diving and very patient. Great instruction and willing to put in every effort and explain topics clearly and precisely. He went above and beyond. Amazing value for money. I recommend anyone wishing to dive in Koh Tao use Scuba Birds and if you get Josip you will have the best experience and tuition.
