One might think that there is little to say about a small town in North Mayo. This tour will change that. The tour takes two hours but there are so many stories that the tour could take much longer!

Belmullet
The walk commences in Carter Square where I tell the story of the founding of the town in 1824 by William Carter. Stories of famous visitors such as JM Synge and JB Yeats will also be recounted here.
Belmullet
The tour continues to the docks and along the Belmullet Canal built in 1845. The canal links Blacksod and Broadhaven Bays and the water always flows from Blacksod to Broadhaven. Find out why.

Great walking tour of Belmullet. Bill, who filled in for Neil was extremely knowledgeable about the area and history of Belmullet. We’d highly recommend taking this tour. Bill was an incredible tour guide. He knew so many things that tied in other tours we’ve been on. He was engaging and answered all our questions. Thank you Bill!

Very enjoyable walking tour. Saw parts of Belmullet that we wouldn’t have seen on our own. Very welcoming and informative guide.

Bill Duffy was our tour guide and he was wonderful! I wanted to learn more about the area where my grandparents were born and this tour did not disappoint. Bill, from Black Sod spent time before researching the history and was a wealth of knowledge. He gave me a good picture of what it was like for my Great grandfather, who was born in 1812, and my grandfather who was the last of 16 children born in 1876. So thankful I signed up for this tour!

The whole tour was brilliant, the knowledge of the local area and well beyond couldn’t be faulted. Would highly recommend whether it’s your first time to visit or like me you have visited quite a few times.

This is weirdly a tour on which I did not go, but I want to praise the leader. We booked for the tour, but there was a glitch with the web site. Neil could not do it. I want to praise his professionalism. He found time to meet us and have a brief chat with us. He gave us a complimentary copy of his excellent book on the area. We did do parts of his tour, but it would have been so much better with him.

What a lovely experience, Joe and I loved seeing this town with Neil. His knowledge and kind manner helped us to understand the history of this town, It is the town of origin for Joe's grandfather and we now think we understand the place bit better. Belmullet is a very special place. Hats off to the town for keeping it up so well and to Neil for showcasing it so nicely (even on a gray day)!

I loved this walk around Belmullet. While I have been there many times I saw things on this walk that I never saw before, e.g. plaques in gaelic telling the prophecies of Brian Rua Carabine. Neal was a very informative and entertaining guide and we loved his poem. Highly enjoyable tour

We spent almost a full day with Neal and cannot recommend him highly enough. He's charming, funny, intelligent and obviously loves this area. We wanted to learn everything we could about Belmullet after discovering we had family roots here, so we started with the town walking tour, which was very entertaining and comprehensive. We also hired Neal for a private Mullet Peninsula tour, and he showed us (and explained) all of the spectacular sights, as well as finding our family's original farm. Thanks again for everything, Neal!
