Acropolis
The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The word acropolis is from the Greek words ἄκρον (akron, "highest point, extremity") and πόλις (polis, "city"). The term acropolis is generic and there are many other acropoleis in Greece. While there is evidence that the hill was inhabited as far back as the fourth millennium BC, it was Pericles (c. 495–429 BC) in the fifth century BC who coordinated the construction of the buildings whose present remains are the site's most important ones, including the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike. The Parthenon and the other buildings were seriously damaged during the 1687 siege by the Venetians during the Morean War when gunpowder being stored in the Parthenon by the Ottomans was hit by a cannonball and exploded.

5.00Absolutely loved this tour! It's a great introduction to Athens. Alex, my guide, did a wonderful job to ensure I had the best of time in Athens. We visited many sites and had ample time at all of them. He made sure I was comfortable at all times and took my opinions regarding sites to visit on board as well. He was quick to find solurions, had a lot to share and was very knowledgable. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations, especially about the Greek alphabet! Everything was well organized and planned out. Highly recommend this tour to everyone!

5.00We had an excellent day out with a fantastic driver that made sure were back in plenty of time to the ship. We saw the Acropolis, the city including the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Olympic Stadium. He brought us to a local Gyro place in Athens. We were very happy.

5.00In May, a large Dutch traveling party of 36 people came on holiday in Athens. The difficult problems to see many things, visit the city center, the Acropolis Museum, the old city of Athens, special taverns , sights, important places, all in one afternoon in Athens, were solved by the company 'LStours & transfers '. They provided us with two small ultra-luxury buses, with very friendly staff, who helped us carry out our program. It was the first time we used such a facility and at a low price.
