Tirana Airport – Apollonia – Vlora
Accommodations

Apollonia Archaeological Park
Pick up at Tirana airport and transfer to Vlora. On the way we stop to the ancient city of Apollonia situated on the famous Via Egnatia - one of the most important cities in Roman times. The Roman Emperor Augustus Octavian studied here.
Vlore
Afterwards we continue to Vlora, the town of Albania’s Independence for overnight.
Vlora – Butrint (UNESCO) – Saranda

Himare
After breakfast we depart for Saranda. Drive on the spectacular Albanian Riviera looking down at the Ionian Sea. Breathtaking sceneries await us at the Llogara pass - 1000 m above sea level. On the way we visit the Ali Pasha Castle in Panormi bay a.k.a Porto Palermo, name given by the Fascist Italian soldiers during WWII.
Butrint National Park
We continue on to Saranda, to visit the ancient city of Butrint a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was first settled by Greek colonists and was continuously inhabited for centuries forming archaeological layers of passing civilizations. It is situated in a beautiful peninsula among dense vegetation.
Saranda
Then we drive to Saranda for Overnight
Saranda – Gjirokastra (UNESCO) – Berat

Gjirokaster
After breakfast we drive to Berat. We stop in Gjirokastra a UNESCO site and museum town with beautiful and very distinct architecture. We will visit the Fortress which is used as the venue for the National Festival of Folk Song and Dance and has an Arms’ Museum with weapons from WWII. Next we visit the Ethnographic Museum which is also the house and birthplace of our ex-dictator, Enver Hoxha.
Berat
We depart for Berat, the city of 1001 windows, one of the most attractive and characteristic towns in Albania and protected by UNESCO as a world heritage town. In the afternoon explore the city of Berat independently, especially by night the views of the two old neighborhoods Gorica and Mangalemi are magical. Overnight in Berat.
Berat (UNESCO) – Durres – Tirana

Berat Castle
After breakfast we visit the Castle and the Onufri Museum. Berat castle is of particular interest as people still live within its walls in their traditional houses, as have their ancestors for centuries. The castle used to have over 40 churches of which 7 still remain, including one turned into Onufri Museum. Onufri was an Albanian Icon master painter of the 16th century who painted many orthodox churches in Albania and Greece.
Durres Amphitheatre
After this interesting experience we depart for Durres one of the oldest and most important cities in Albania founded in 627 B.C. We take a sightseeing tour of the Archaeological Museum and the Amphitheatre situated in the middle of the modern city in an inhabited area.
Tirana
Continue to Tirana and take a sightseeing tour of the city and its most important attractions, Et’hem bey mosque, Clock Tower, boulevard “Martyrs of the Nation”, the Pyramid, Bunkers in the central area of the city and much more. Overnight in Tirana.
Tirana – Airport
Rinas
After breakfast, free to explore until time of transfer to Airport. End of our services.

5.00Albania has been my favorite country so far to visit for its beauty, friendliness, safety and diversity. Endri our tour guide was exceptionally passionate, knowledgeable, organized and enthusiastic and made it an epic trip. Endri definitely made our trip unforgettable by hiking, making history come alive, and giving fantastic recommendations of where to eat and what to do in our free time. The country is beautiful but without a great guide we could not have seen, learned or known the many fascinating places we went to. I highly recommend this company especially Endri.

5.00My husband and I are Canadian seniors who recently completed a private Balkan tour organized by Ara Travel in Albania, and we could not be more pleased with the experience. From the beginning, the company was wonderful to work with. They were very flexible and accommodating, gladly accepting our itinerary and making thoughtful adjustments to ensure everything worked smoothly. Our guide, Albert (“Bertie”), was absolutely outstanding and truly made the trip special. As seniors with some mobility challenges, we deeply appreciated his patience, kindness, and constant attentiveness. He was always ready to help with luggage and bags and made sure we were comfortable at every step of the journey. What really set Bertie apart was his remarkable knowledge. His understanding of the region’s history, politics, and current events was exceptional, and he shared it in such an engaging way that we learned an enormous amount about every country we visited. He also added wonderful personal touches to the trip. Each day he introduced us to local treats and took us to authentic local restaurants, just as we had hoped, giving us a genuine taste of the region. Quite simply, Bertie is one of the best guides we have ever had anywhere in the world. We only wish all of our travel guides could meet his standard. We highly recommend Ara Travel and especially Bertie to anyone considering a Balkan tour. It was a memorable and enriching experience for us.

5.00Endria has been sooo knowledgeable and such a historian we thought he’d studied history at Uni but he is just passionate about his job. 5 days with a guide showing us the highlights of Albania is a great insight into the history of Albania. Such a beautiful country with mountains everywhere. The Norway/Switzerland of The Ionian. Would def recommend. We had Endria for 5 days.

5.00Wherever you go North,South,West or East of Albania you will see a wonderful nature starting with mountains which are plenty of them,forests,hills,lakes and the two seas Adriatic and Ion. The locals are welcoming and the traditional foods delicious.Plenty of history to discover.
