If you love birdwatching, nature and photography, this experience is a unique opportunity to explore the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve, one of the largest and most biodiversity urban reserves in the world, in the heart of Buenos Aires.
Together with a professional guide specializing in birds, you will walk paths and lagoons where you can observe more than 300 species of birds, in addition to other wild animals, in their natural habitat, surrounded by native flora of the Río de la Plata. The reserve offers ideal settings for photographing birds, landscapes and urban wildlife, with excellent moments to capture emblematic species, their behaviors and their environment.

What To Expect
Enjoy birding and nature on a private tour at your own pace, with specialized guide and pick up and return to your accommodation. We will explore the natural wealth of the amazing South Coast Ecological Reserve in the city centre, together with a professional birdwatching expert and photographer. Discover the wildlife of the city with different eyes! WALK THE TRAILS : we will tour different circuits for birds, flora and native fauna in the gallery forest, the lagoons and the viewpoints over the Río de la Plata. LOCAL BIRD AND FAUNA IDENTIFICATION: this urban reserve is home to more than 300 species of birds and is the most prominent site in urban biodiversity in Buenos Aires. PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI: we will take advantage of each encounter with nature to photograph it, with practical advice from the guide and photographer. Being a private tour, the experience is personalized, both for experienced birders and those who want a first approach to birding. Comfortable footwear, cap, sunscreen, insect repellent and water are recommended. In case of heavy rain or thunderstorm, the tour may be rescheduled or canceled for safety.

5.00On my journey home to the UK from a trip to Antarctica I had a free morning in Buenos Aires; 3 hours birding in the Costanero Sud Eco Park in the centre of the city was an excellent way to spend it. Urban birding at its best. My guide was Javier from Pampas Birding, a charming man and an expert birder. 60 species on the list by the end of the excursion. Price included pick-up from and return to my hotel so all very easy. All birders and non-birders (Javier has a scope so no problem if you don’t have binoculars) would enjoy this outing.

Urban birding at its best. Javier is a charming man and an expert birder; 60 species were on the list in 3 hours! Price included pick-up from and return to my hotel so all very easy and convenient. All birders and non-birders would enjoy this outing; don’t worry if you haven’t got binoculars with you as Javier brings a scope.

5.00I'd been to Costanera Sur on my own twice during my stay in Buenos Aires but I'm not the best at identifying birds. Fortunately, I found Javier on TripAdvisor for a private tour. He picked me up at my apartment and took me to the preserve and in just 3 hours we were able to see 71 species and over 30 new lifers. It was a lovely, warm (but not hot) morning and Javier was wonderful to be with and talk to. His birding knowledge is immense and he's fluent in English. As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe and highly recommend Javier. It was a highlight of my two months in Buenos Aires.
Javier went out of his way to get targeted birds and more.

5.00Javier picked me up at my hotel early on December 24th. I was impressed he had been in contact with the guide I had just spent 5 days with to get a list of birds I still needed. When we found the reserve closed due to combination of slippery muddy trails and it being Christmas Eve day, Javier immediately had another plan. The Tripadvisor tour is 3 hours, but even on a holiday, Javier was happy to add 3 more hours . I always felt safe and cared for, learned a lot, and saw some amazing birds. I highly recommend Javier as a bird guide.

5.00Javier has guided my partner and I on a hike in the South Coast Reserve and we are happy for the large number of bird species we managed to observe (more than 100 in a morning!) in addition to flora and fauna of the area. He knows the place and behavior of the birds well and helped us to identify them correctly and take good photos. Booking is recommended for both people who like outdoor activities and fanatical birdwatchers like us. It really made us feel comfortable because he is a super nice person and expert in his own! Thank you, Javier! We will be back soon:)

5.00Javier is an excellent guide with an amazing eye and ear for Argentinian birds. I had a limited amount of time before an afternoon flight so I contacted Javier. He guided me for a few hours on a previous trip in the winter of 2022. I was more than happy with the results and was looking forward to seeing birds with Javier again. Javier included a scope which resulted in the ability to see a very elusive Masked Duck, (a bird I’ve been wanting to see in other countries for over 30 years.) Javier asked for a list of birds that I might be interested in seeing specifically. He knew I just wanted to spend time away from the airport before the afternoon flight but had a goal to help me find at least two new species. At the end of our two hours, I had 11 new species on my Argentina list, five lifers, and 59 species on the day list! I look forward to someday returning for more birding with Javier.
