What To Expect
16th Street Baptist Church
The tour begins at the steps of the 16th Street Baptist Church, the site of a horrific bombing. You'll learn about its history, the bombing, the people that gathered here, MLK, and much more.
The tour stops outside the church, and you'll learn about the role it played in the Children's Crusade in 1963.

5.00We did this tour late on a Saturday afternoon and had such a great experience! We learned a lot and enjoyed seeing important sites in the Civil Rights Movement of the early 1960’s.
Informative go-at-your-own-pace! This was my first tour using this format. It was great!

5.00This was a great way to explore an intentional area. We had limited time and wanted to tour at our convenience. After purchasing the tour, just wait a few minutes for email and text with additional instructions. It did require downloading an app. The tour is announced thru your phone speaker, with very clear instructions on where to walk, when to turn a corner, or cross over an intersection. It did drain my phone battery though, so be fully charged before beginning. Recorded explanation was clear and thorough. Highly recommend!!

4.00There were a couple of inaccuracies - eg narrator gave directions to "Streets" that were really "Avenues" which was confusing (in some cities it matters whether you are talking street or avenue). I found the map/directions a bit confusing. But overall it was very informative.

4.00Getting the app started on the phone was difficult. There needs to be an easier interface to get the tour started once you have paid for the tour. May I suggest you send a code in a text message that the person inputs once that open the tour they have paid for. Once I got the tour started the information and the direction in the walk were very good. Enjoyed the walk-in tour. Hated the trying to the get the audio to start.

4.00I truly enjoyed the tour. It deepened my knowledge of the Civil Rights movement. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the app not switching smoothly with my camera app. In order to continue, I had to keep resetting the tour. However, don't let that keep you from buying the tour. It was worth the small inconvenience.

5.00Outstanding walking tour. Very easy setup. Narration was very informative and offered clear verbal directions to the next stop. You do NOT have to open your phone to map to the next stop, they very clearly and simply direct you. It is a small geographic area and a reasonable amount of walking. Lots of on-street metered parking in the area. Sparked great conversation with HS/college age kids afterward. Highly recommend.

4.00It was terrific! We loved the narrator and found the whole tour. Fascinating. The only hitch was that the narration went off at almost the end of the tour, but not quite. We tried to reload and for a very long time. It said it was downloading the tour, but it never came up again. Anyway, it was easy to understand. The pace was great and the content was truly engaging. We were disappointed that we couldn’t find a tour led by a human, so we reverted to this tour. We were not one bit disappointed. Thank you!

5.00The geo location that determines when the audio advances works perfectly. The narrator’s intonations and inflection are engaging (though I suspect it may be AI based on a few mispronunciations that are phonetically correct but would have been corrected by a producer). The distance covered was easy to walk — even in 37° weather. I appreciated that the route started and ended on the same corner. Highly recommend.

5.00The speaker is clear and quite informative. Following her specific directions made the experience worthwhile and meaningful. Very specific details on this inexpensive tour. I found myself on quite a few corners listening attentively in storing those historical facts. I enjoyed the tour in spite of the very cold fall day.
