This route runs through the most beautiful and spectacular area of Bizkaia. Very special area and full of history for the Bizkaians.
You can enjoy natural parks such as Urkiola and Gorbea in all its splendor and we will walk through medieval villages such as Elorrio, Otxandio and Areatza. They retain their original structure with old houses and beautiful palaces. Visit to the necropolis of Argiñeta, the most important in Europe, with tombs and funeral steles of the 10th century.
Finishing the day with a walk through the beech of Otzarreta, one of the most photographed in Europe, is something unforgettable.

Unforgettable Day in Basque Country

5.00I can't stop thinking about our lovely day exploring the surrounding areas of Bilbao with Jose. My favorite was the Otzarreta forest with the gorgeous beech trees that showed all the fall colors, but really the whole day was a treasure. Jose takes you on a journey to not just see but to get a feel for the culture of the area by walking through historical and natural locations and villages. We saw everything from chickens and farms, to the Three Crosses with a gorgeous mountain view, to a national park to see the stunning beech trees. He arranged lunch for us at a lovely restaurant where we had wonderful local freshly prepared Basque food served with pride. I wanted to hug the lady who served us, she loved that we enjoyed the food and wanted to make sure we were happy with everything. The day made me fall in love with Basque country because we got such a sense of the culture, food and people during our day - and Basque country is truly a place that is special. Jose was a huge part of this - his love and knowledge of the area shows in the care taken each step of the way. I can't recommend this tour enough! Thank you Jose for a truly amazing day!!

5.00This was a wonderful tour of the Basque country: nature and historic villages. The scenery is breathtaking and the ancient birch forests are magical. I very much enjoyed my tour with Jose. He is a very knowledgable and interesting guide. This tour should not be missed.

5.00The tour with Jose was incredible. By far the best tour I have ever been on and my personal highlight of the Basque Country, and one that seems to be missed by a lot of travellers. Everywhere he took me was breathtaking, and I’ll think about what I saw for the rest of my life. Jose is an amazing guide as well, informative, engaging and best of all, someone who is passionate about the place he calls home. I also greatly appreciated the small detour where he ordered cookies from the nuns in the covenant. Book this tour, you will not regret it!!!

5.00Everything we saw on this tour surprised us pleasantly, coupled with the great explanations of our wonderful guide José Luis. You rating the affection he has for his land and in the end he transmits a lot to you. His friendliness and professionalism is endless, he made us beautiful photos and told us where to eat, apart from telling us curious details of each location. 5.00Recommended route to get to know the interior of Bizkaia, its villages, its gastronomy, its traditions and mountainous landscapes. All this together with a dedicated, honest local guide, very knowledgeable about the history of each place and willing to make the whole experience unforgettable from start to finish. I did this route next to the Mining Route, one day each, and I can leave with all the satisfaction of having known Bizkaia with a very close and local look. On the Duranguesado Route I had the opportunity to walk through historic towns and places, combined with traditions, natural and mountainous views that make each place a source of tranquility, happiness, and the desire to have the experience present for a long time. About the guide, José Luis, I only have words of thanks. His open disposition and passion for Bizkaia give an unrivalled touch to the experience, plus the tours become personalized and, thanks to this, the experience on both days has been like going for a walk with a great friend. I can guarantee that anyone who books a tour on any route with José Luis will receive much more than expected. As data: - The pick-up point is in Bilbao, the guide is very punctual. - The route lasted from 9 to 10 hours, you travel in the guide's car so you go very comfortable and you can take backpack. - Coordinates with the guide a meal time in local restaurants (follow the recommendations of José Luis, whether to eat à la carte, menu of the day or to go pintxos on the go, are very worthwhile). - Times from place to place are short and carefully planned to be close to each other. - The experience of the route is designed to be quiet and unhurried. Although we were on an itinerary, at no point did I feel like it was rushed. I had enough time to take as many photos and videos as I wanted, at the same time I knew the history of the places and discovered local traditions like gildas or a small Basque ball game in a village. For a better experience, I also recommend communicating in advance, as the guide will adjust the routes based on needs. Without more to add, eskerrik asko eta laster art!
