Neal and Becky live in the Black Hills near the historic mining town of Hayward. Neal is a native South Dakotan having a close association with the Black Hills since his youth.
As you tour the southern Black Hills, you'll get a narration of the history of the sights as well as personal stories of the area. The history begins with our pickup in Rapid City connecting the life of Crazy Horse with General George Armstrong Custer; the Fort Laramie treaty of 1868 and the Battle of the Little Bighorn, also known as Custer's Last Stand; and the thread that ties everything together is the discovery of gold in the Black Hills.

Black Hills National Forest
Our entire day trip is within the Black Hills National Forest that covers an area 125 miles long and 65 miles wide, a 1.25-million acre forest! We spend about 2 hours driving time that is interspersed between the sites we visit as outlined below. Along the way, we take in the beauty of the Black Hills that encompasses rugged rock formations, canyons, gulches, open grassland, and mountain lakes, including learning about the rich history of the area, including Custer's expedition to the area in 1874.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial
Our first stop is Mount Rushmore National Memorial where the rich history of the United States is told through the lives of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham enshrined on Mount Rushmore. Through their lives we learn about the birth, growth, development and preservation of this country. The memorial is surrounded by the beauty of the Black Hills.

AWESOME! Not much else to say. Anyone who is anywhere near here needs to visit this historical landmark. Easy access with lots of parking. Only suggestion is to come early in the morning (we got there at 0730) to take advantage of the morning light on the monument…and lack of people!

A great and wonderful guided tour. Our guide, Neal, gave us very interesting informations. We stopped for 1h15 at Mount Rushmore and it’s beautiful; we stopped 1h15 at Crazy Horse and took the bus ride to see the memorial closer (it worths the 5$ it costs), we had an hour lunch break at Custer; and after lunch it was a bus ride in Custer state park where we saw more than a hundred of bisons, antilopes, prairie dogs, deers and horses; with stops to watch documentary or to take pictures,… We had a wonderful day, cold bottle of water and choice of light snacks. Thank you Neal for a SUPER guided tour! It worths every penny

Great trip with a great guide! Only had one day for tourism, so was thrilled to find a tour that accepted solo travelers and had so much included. Next time I’m swinging through with the family we’ll probably just book this exact excursion for the whole group.

Neil and Becky were great tour guides as they were very knowledgeable about the area and happy to answer any questions. They also made a point of finding out where wildlife could be spotted so that I could see as much as possible. We covered a huge amount of ground in one day, always with plenty of time to visit the sights. Seeing a herd of bison was a thrill. The scenery in the Black Hills is very beautiful and the towns historic. This trip is excellent value for money and really enjoyable.
