Cazinoul Constanta

The story of the Constanta Casino is sadly the story of Romania’s many splendid, yet abandoned historical monuments. A great piece of Art Nouveau architecture from the early 20th century, the Casino was once the symbol of Romania’s main port, Constanta, on the shore of the Black Sea. No other monument illustrates so perfectly the Belle Epoque in Constanta like the building of the Casino. Dating from the first years of the last century, the Casino was built at the initiative of Romania’s first King, Carol the 1st. It was inaugurated in 1910, and until the Second World War, it was the main seaside meeting point for the rich tourists who enjoyed to gamble. The foundations of the Constanta Casino were modified three times depending on the architects’ perspectives, Daniel Renard and Petre Antonescu. An eclectic piece of architecture, with many marine-inspired decorations, including its almost surreal shell windows facing the Black Sea, the Casino was the place where you were received.

Catedrala Sfinkii Apostoli Petru si Pavel - Constanka

The Orthodox Cathedral "Holy Apostles Peter and Paul" is an Orthodox place of worship in Constanța, located in the peninsular area of the city, below the Ovidiu Square, in front of the Tomis Archdiocese building. The building dominates through its monumental architecture the entire area of the southern cliff of the city. The foundation stone was laid on September 4, 1883, during Metropolitan Iosif Gheorghian. The consecration of the church was done on May 22, 1895. The building plans belong to the famous architect Alexandru Orăscu [1], and the architect who was the director of the works was Carol Beniș. The contractor of the works was Henri Guaracino. In the park that surrounds the cathedral is an archaeological complex in which elements of the old city of Tomis are identified.

  • Disappointing

Super disappointed and would NOT recommend this pricey private tour. Also, we were not aware that Museums are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Although our guide Andrei was great and gave us plenty of free time to roam, there was barely anything to see/do. We basically saw an old casino on the black see, a church, and small mosque. That’s IT!!! Don’t mind paying the price but for over $300 for two and didn’t see much?? No way!! We liked our guide, but definitely found this trip NOT worth it.

Laura was our tour guide and she was very good. She picked up my family and me and took us to the main attractions in Constanta which were about 2.5 hours away from Bucharest. She was very nice, informative and professional. The day was unfortunately bad weather and I can imagine it would have been even more impressive without the fog. I rate this 10/10.

  • Lots of Fun in Constanta

Constanta is best visited with Bogdan, our knowledgeable and fun guide/driver. We dipped our feet in the Black Sea, saw mosaics and ruins from Roman times, stared at ornate architecture from Greek to Ottoman to Romanian Baroque in the Old Town that overlooks the modern seaport — a great contrast of old and new. Bogdan was very informative and knew the best place for lunch. We ate delicious Turkish food at Bosra then strolled back to the car via the mosque and Greek Quarter. On our drive back to Bucharest, we stopped at Rasov Winery. It was a delightful day punctuated with laughter and local insight. You won’t go wrong with a tour with Bogdan. You'll leave feeling you've made a friend.

  • Beautiful Constanta

Constanta was the highlight of our 6-day visit to Romania. The architecture is enchanting, the views great and the city very pedestrian friendly. Our lunch was wonderful but was exceded by the view of the Black Sea. Laura has impecable personal knowledge of the city having been born there. I highly recomendó this tour and especially so if you can have Laura as your guide.

  • My experience on the tour...

My experience on the tour is ok. However, the experience I had with Viator agent at Bucharest is bad. I asked the tour guide to drop me off at a different hotel from that of pick up due to hotel change. The two hotels are only less than 2 miles apart. The tour guide was ok but later was instructed by the agent not to. Agent asked for $60 Euro extra to make the change. Additionally, he accused me of doing things behind his back. It is no big deal if Viator did not want to accommodate the change but that accusation is really not justified.

  • Great guide!

There were a lot of religious history that I didn't enjoy as much but the black sea was beautiful. The guide was very knowledgeable about so many things and also a safe driver. The tour started with the constanta center where I could hear sounds of a carousel, that we didn't get to visit. The renovated building was nice, it was a beautiful structure and the immersive electronic materials made it memorable. One of the churches had an active prayer occurring which felt really intrusive to the worshippers a we entered. I enjoyed the architectural discussion and history. We were able to pop into a local theater as well. I'd recommend this to curious tourists who don't mind walking.

Laura was an amazing guide. She showed us all the places in Constanta city, shared the history, cuisine etc. Moreover, she didn't rush through any of the itinerary and drove safely as well. Definitely recommended.

Great trip out to the Black Sea to visit the city of Constanta . This included a nice walking tour of the city , a climb up the tower of a historic moss for beautiful views of the city and sea from above , a walk along the waters edge and Lunch at a very beautiful restaurant with an all glassed in dining room offering panoramic views of the Black Sea while enjoying great food and cocktails ! The 2.5 hour ride was very comfortable in a large van for our group of 4 . There is plenty of stops in between to get snacks and use a restroom . This one shouldn’t be missed
