Fun, entertaining and informative. Love the big open windows. I would recommend starting early , that way you can do all three loops.

We had one evening and a full day in Boston. We decided on the Hop On Hop Off to try to see as much as possible in one day. That was the plan anyway. We were staying just across a plaza from stop 13 so we decided to get on there. Unfortunately there was a lot of construction and the trolley stop was moved from one street to around the corner. No big deal. We walked around the corner and found a paper sign on a lamp post saying the stop had been moved further down the block. Ok. We never saw the second paper sign taped to another lamp post but we’re within sight of that spot and we waited… for over 30 minutes. Called the office and after a conversation, she offered to check GPS to see where the next trolley was. Just at that time we saw a trolley coming around a side street and we got off the phone awaiting its arrival. Unfortunately there were construction vehicles parked all along that street as well and I guess that’s why the trolley never attempted to stop anywhere on that street. The sign in the window said “Back Bay Tour” so we thought maybe it was a special tour?? Nope. Waited another 15 minutes or so and called again. She informed me that another trolley would be along in 5-7 minutes. Another 10 or so minutes went by and the trolley did come by. We got on thinking we were finally on our way. Nope. Apparently this was just a stragglers taxi trolley. As soon as we got on there was one other couple and we were informed that we would be headed directly to stop 7 I believe and would have to get off the trolley and transfer to yet another trolley. Fabulous. However we had to wait for the next trolley to show up. In all we wasted almost 2 HOURS of our one day in Boston. What time we had left we were able to utilize the trolley. Be aware that the stops are divided into two separate loops with transfers at two locations. A couple times we would just get on a trolley and be instructed we would have to get off at the next stop. I had read that the best way to utilize the trolley system was if you got a driver/guide that you liked to stay on the full rotation and listen to everything and then get off at your desired stops on the second loop. That was not possible. Would I recommend this to a friend?? Maybe, with a LOT of caveats and a lot more planning on your part AND reduced expectations. We ended up actually getting off and seeing only a few things on the Freedom Trail. We were not physically able to walk a full day AND see the sights and were hoping this would allow us to see more. Not so.

Wonderful driver Ms. Beantown. Very pleasant, ask where we were from. She knew a lot of history and was able to move that trolley through awfully traffic.

Great stops! Driver were very knowledgeable and entertaining. Drivers need to enunciate to be understood. Some were better than others.
