What To Expect
Botequins are small traditional bars (often family ventures) specializing in selling drinks and appetizers. They are places of confraternization, with a laid-back environment and an informality that is also present in their menus. Botequins are also a significant part of the Carioca culture—Cariocas love going to these bars to enjoy ice-cold bottled beer or chopp (a draft beer pint) and appetizers with friends. Walking off the beaten path, you will visit three to four botequins, explore the specialties of each bar according to your taste, and eat and drink as you go. Among other things, you will taste cachaça, caipirinha and local beers as well as traditional Brazilian street foods such as coxinha, pastel and feijoada and cod bolinhos.

5.00Monique was great!! It was our first day in Rio and we’re so glad we got to have this experience right away. We were taken to 5 local botequims and every stop, the food and drink were sooooo good! Monique selected what she thought we’d enjoy and what the locals love, and she has great taste. You should definitely book this tour, you’ll be glad you did!! PS - Monique’s English is great, and say to understand and she shared great tips, history and local culture.

5.00I was lucky enough to tour with Monique in Copacabana. We went to several bars and restaurants and even a stop at a small brewery bar where we tasted some local brews. The tour was fantastic. Monique is so knowledgeable and engaging. She makes the vibrant streets come even more alive with her experience and enthusiasm. I have done several tours with Cariocas Travel. Each one was thoughtfully arranged and was presented by fantastic guides who went out of their way to make sure that all your needs and comforts were met. It is a great company that I would (and have) use on any trip to Rio de Janeiro.
