This isn't your typical tour of charming balconies and tourist sites. Instead, immerse yourself in the real, unvarnished Tbilisi, where the locals live and work. This tour takes you off the beaten track and into the raw and authentic heart of the city.

We'll take you through crowded, sometimes dimly lit neighbourhoods that buzz with life, where remnants of Tbilisi's Soviet past still stand tall in brutalist architecture. These unspoilt areas reveal the true stories of the city's history - its tragedies, its struggles and its resilience.

If you're looking for a Stalin-focused tour, this is not for you. We tell the real stories of the people and their challenges. This tour is not for everyone - it's for those who seek the truth and are prepared to face the difficult realities of Tbilisi's past and present.

Our tour won the National Tourism Award of Georgia, and part of the profits go to support IDPs.

Group tours run a few times a week and places are limited. Please book in advance.

A detailed introduction to the brutalist architecture of Tbilisi. Alex, my guide, and Fancho, my driver, were impeccable and extremely friendly. Alex’s knowledge and willingness to pass it on, as well as openness to answering questions and exploring inside several of the sites part of the tour made this tour one of the best of the trip to Georgia and certainly an eye-opening experience about a wonderful country.

We were delighted with our tour - it was even better than I hoped for. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable, and we learned a huge amount about Tbilisi past and present. If you're just interested in the pretty tourist sites, this is not for you - but if you want to get beneath the skin of the city it's ideal. It's quite intense; it took us a while to process everything afterwards. Would absolutely recommend it.

  • A tour not to be missed

The tour on brutalism in Tbilisi was very very interesting. Organized very well, it complied perfectly with what was proposed. The 5 places visited certainly very significant and suggestive. The car with which the tour took place comfortable, but definitely the difference was made by Kathuna! It was a very prepared guide, who explained in a very clear and detailed way and in perfect English, but above all very understandable to me as I do not speak it well. To his preparation he added sympathy and empathy, making the tour absolutely perfect!

This tour provides a unique opportunity to explore some of Tbilisi’s amazing brutalist architecture. You learn about the buildings and monuments and the people that designed them, as well as a glimpse into the social context in which they were built. And if you’re lucky enough you might get to meet the lift lady.

This was our 3rd tour and it did not disappoint. Jonah again showed his knowledge of the subject and enthusiasm for guiding us through different experiences of Soviet architecture. Highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in Soviet architecture and especially brutalist style.
