This was my first visit to Buenos Aires. Everyone talked about drinking Mate. I was curious and wanted to learn about the drink and custom. I learned the history, components, and proper preparation of this drink. It was an informative and enjoyable experience, and I highly recommend.

We had the most beautiful mate experience at Betty and Marcelo’s in Buenos Aires – truly something special. The experience is run by their daughter Veronica, and you can immediately feel how much heart she puts into it. She explains everything in such a warm, engaging way, from the history and cultural importance of mate in Argentina to the small rituals and social traditions around sharing it. What I loved most is that she doesn’t just talk about it, she really teaches you how to prepare mate properly. From choosing the yerba to filling the mate correctly and placing the straw, she walks you through every step with patience and passion. You leave not only having tasted mate, but actually understanding it. It’s the perfect experience before the asado, intimate, authentic, and incredibly welcoming. It feels like being invited into someone’s home to learn a meaningful tradition. Highly, highly recommend this to anyone wanting a genuine cultural experience in Buenos Aires!

This was a great introduction to the culture and process of mate drinking in Argentina, with information about other countries as well. Each guest gets to prepare and sample their own cup of mate, and a sweet treat is also provided to offset the bitterness of the mate. Veronica gave advice about purchasing mate, cups and straws, and discussed how Argentinians consume mate at home, at work, and at leisure. She is super personable and helpful. I highly recommend this experience, and if you want to also experience asado, they offer that as well—you can book both experiences for the same day, the mate is at 6 and asado at 7.
