You only pay donation as an entrance fee from this site. If you visit the park from Punta Cahuita, you pay some entrance fee. You can go from one end to the other and then take the bus back again. You can't take plastic with you, the bags are checked. Animals feed forbidden, but not everyone heeds this the animals know exactly where to get what. So many cape monkeys and raccoons will empty your pocket if you're not mindful enough. The paths are easy to walk on, if it has rained heavily, they can also be muddy. Many animals are often seen with a baby. We loved it and stayed here several times. Guides are waiting outside the entrance, whose services can be used. Above all, it is worth that if you want to see something special like snakes etc. Bathing is also possible. Before the park closes, an employee runs through the park and asks visitors to leave.

We were two young adults and a retired couple, interested in the unique nature and Outdoor Experience in eastern Costa rica. We got a lot more than we planned for with eduerto our tour guide, Andy our driver and Joseph the boat operator. We didn't just go to the Nationsal National Park, but took a leisurely boat tour in the turtle canal looking at lizards, Cayman, sloths and the odd turtle. We stopped at a model Plantation that show cased all kinds of local staple foods as well as the obvious exports of cacao, coffee and bananas . We loved walking through the National Park on the well-kept trails and then back along a fabulous sandy beach with crashing waves . Loved the local handmade ice cream. Finally stopped for a beer at a local pub perched on a high point overlooking the city to enjoy the breeze. All this in only 6 hours! We highly recommend Eduerto and his team.

Great park, but felt pretty crowded as we visited around Christmas holidays. Would be great to come here in the early morning or late afternoon. Saw sloth, Capuchin monkeys, raccoons. The beach runs parallel to the trail, could have probably taken a dip in the water, if we had more time. Guards check your bags at the entrance - do not bring any plastic bags, those are not allowed. You need to sign a book with your name/address and make a donation to enter the park. Restrooms available and there's a restaurant right outside the entrance (we did not eat there, though)

  • easy stroll on level trail with ocean and wildlife views, topped off with lazy collapse on beach....

What a beautiful place! We start early leaving Puerto Viejo (the park opens at 8 ), the bus to Cahuita leaves 950 C. Half an hour drive and we were at the entrance to the park. It is forbidden to wear your own snorkeling mask (you have to leave it somewhere before entering, we leave it in a restaurant in the area). The only park in all of Costa Rica that has economic access at will, just a registration and give what you like as an entrance. I recommend bringing water and food (hiding from monkeys) because it is a fantastic place to spend the whole day. It is a hike of about 5 kilometers through the jungle seeing animals , sloths, monkeys, raccoons, frogs beside the sea, at any time you can enter the Caribbean Sea! We were offered snorkeling tours that you can only do with guides ranging from usd15 to 35 usd, in our case we do not take tours, but ask several times until you find the best offer. You do not need to hire a guide to enter the park, the road is marked.

First part walked by a raised structure above the forest floor and a second part by path parallel to the coast. We have seen monkeys, raccoons, sloths, howler monkeys, iguana, hermit crabs, butterflies and different birds. The beach has little sand but is paradise, it is advisable to wear glasses for diving.

This park is very nice to visit along the Caribbean Sea Our very nice guide showed us the beauty of this park with all these animals free and happy to live and flourish in this beautiful setting. Then you also have the possibility to swim and there are showers to change while leaving, it is very convenient.

The setting is fantastic, the trail is in good condition and does not require being particularly sporty. However, if you want to see something other than monkeys and raccoons that are very easy to see, do not hesitate to go through the services of a guide who will know better where to look for them (especially for sloths!)
