Imagine going back in time and canoeing to meet a real family living on a river island, a natural paradise just 40 minutes away from Puerto Viejo, undeveloped and pristine.

Dennis will hand-paddle his large canoe and take you on a beautiful wildlife sightseeing journey close to the Caribbean Sea and upstream to his home, tucked in the middle of a hidden island gem. You will meet his wife, Carol, and, when not at school, their two lovely children. I am sure this will be your most delicious lunch in Costa Rica.

This tour is designed for those who love nature and good-hearted people. It does not belong to any company, and despite their very limited English, I am sure your heart will feel at home. All proceeds go directly to Dennis and his family.

What To Expect

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

No other tour offers canoeing, wildlife spotting, and a family experience all in one. You’ll begin with a canoe adventure, spotting birds, crocodiles, and monkeys, and finish with a visit to the Dennis family, followed by lunch. This is a social and ecological project with nature and people at its core. You’ll experience a tour that is completely unique, authentic, and most importantly gives back.

Dennis, Carol, Jonathon the kids and family took us in and embraced us as family. They shared with us exactly what Pura vida means. It’s more than a word, it’s a feeling. The tour was magical! We felt like we were in a movie scene! Carol prepared delicious food that was made with pure love! We will forever hold the undeniably precious memories of Dennis, Carol and family in our hearts forever and we hope our paths will cross again in the future! We are truly blown away!
