This trip was amazing. We flew in a small plane from Paihia to Cape Reinga and back with our pilot/guide Jonathon. Jonathon is a skilled pilot and a delightful knowledgeable tour leader. We flew over incredible, beautiful sites, and then landed and drove to the most northern part of the North Island. It was a day well spent!

Wow, wow, wow! Our half day trip to Cape Reinga beat expectations. Jonathon, our pilot and tour guide, was professional, personable and provided great information throughout the day. Thank you Jonathon!!! Suggest you bring your own water because tea/coffee/muffin offered but after walking in heat to see lighthouse, beach and dunes, water (which I brought) was appreciated.

We had an amazing flight with Jonathan! He was a superb pilot and full of knowledge! He could tell us what we were flying over and point out things of interest! He then drove us to see the Cape Reinga Lighthouse and then Tapotupotu bay and the giant sand dunes. We learned a lot and saw a lot!

Best half days excursion I have ever been on. And the true value for money will be lost on most folk. For less that £500 for 2 people you get taken from Paihia to the local airfield where you board a G8 minivan fixed wing aircraft for a 45 minute flight out over various commercial growing areas towards 90 mile beach which you fly over and along before landing at Waitiki airfield which is a grass strip of fairly flat ground. There you switch to an air conditioned mini bus to visit the lighthouse at Cape Reinga (almost the most northerly part of north islands) where you walk at leisure to the lighthouse itself. Then back to the mini bus and on to spirits bay for a short walk along the sand whilst your guide and pilot prepares a hot drink and serves a delicious baked today muffin. Then back to the bus for a final stop at the jaw dropping giant dunes where sand surfing is practiced and can be observed. Then back to the plane for another grass strip lift off and another hour flight back along a number of the islands of the Bay of Islands all the while being educated by the knowledgeable and super friendly pilot captain and guide. We saw sharks, dolphin and big fish from about 500 feet and with each major sighting, the pilot was happy to turn a circle for a closer look - nothing was too much trouble. Saw the Bay of Islands from a vantage point unparalleled. The clear blue and green waters and amazing white sand beaches with rolling surf cannot be better viewed from anywhere else. Then back to the original airfield for landing and collection and return to Paihia. Memories made that will last a lifetime.

Just a day after torrential rains, pilot and guide Jonathan took us and another couple for an awesome scenic flight. We flew an hour or so later than normal so the skies could clear somewhat more, which was an excellent call. Clear views along the way, and many breathtaking sights. Many insightful stories from Jonathan and we were given plenty of time to view things on our own at Cape Reinga, at the bay and the sand dunes. The flight back was amazing with the many east-coast bays.

Perfectly organized from start to finish, the entire team super sympathetic. Minibus transfer from Paihia to Kerikeri Airport. The pilot is an absolute all-rounder, doing the whole thing alone from departure to return, great. On the entire flight fascinating and breathtaking views that you don't have during a 3-3.5 hour drive from Russell to Cape Reinga. Landing at Meadow Airport, great, that's really flying ! From the Meadows Airport we take the VW bus to Cape Reinga, then to a small picnic at the magnificent Pandora Beach, then to the big dunes. The return flight is almost even more fascinating than the outbound flight. Clear recommendation, a great experience, definitely better than driving for hours, precisely because you can only really capture the breathtaking scenery from above. The bottom line is that the flight is on a par with a Grand Barrier Reef / Whitsundays flight.

Although I live in the Russell area, I seldom have the time to do as much exploring as I would like to do with my busy work schedule. So glad to have booked this tour as it was magnificent in every way! Was met at Paihia Wharf, driven to Kerikeri to board the plane and it just got better and better! Professionalism mixed with friendliness was the perception all passengers had of our pilot/guide. A superb day and a lot of scenery is packed into the duration of the trip. Highly recommend to all as superb value for one of the best air tours in New Zealand.

Extraordinary experience from A to Z. My 80-yr old Mum, sister and I were picked up on time from our hotel in Paihia and taken by a small plane ( we were 7 plus the pilot) to near Cape Reinga over the West coast over the sublime 90-mile beach. The views were superb and the pilot manoevred well so both side of the place could see well. Landing on a farm field was simply unexpected, safe and so beautifully surreal. Then our skilled pilot drove us in a van to amazing Cape Reinga which we explored ahead of the crowds arriving there by bus mid morning. From there we drove to a nearby lovely beach for tea/cookies break and then went for a quick look to the great Paki giant sand dunes. The Flight back flew over the East coast and we were treated with extraordinary views of the extraordinary great Exhibition bay, the wild kari kari peninsula and the gorgeous Bay of islands. I had done most of Northland by car before but the Salt Air tour is simply sensational. Very well through, profesional and enjoyable.

Highly recommend!! This is by far the best way to experience the Far North all in one, especially some very remote parts that you can’t access via land. Our pilot/driver Jonathon was an absolute gent, he was very informative and friendly! The sand dunes are amazing, Cape Reinga overlooking Cape Maria Van Diemen and where the Tasman and Pacific oceans meet is absolutely breathtaking along with all the incredible views of the bays and harbours along the way! Great team of people and well worth the money! A Far North must do!

We had a wonderful half day trip with Salt Air. The weather was a bit iffy but we were kept up to date and told if we were not happy we could pull out. The weather was great. The flight there and back was so interesting with so much to see. Jonathon our wonderful pilot provided a commentary but not too much and we could share our observations. On landing in the far north Jonathon the pilot became Jonathon the tour driver and drove us up to Cape Reinga and then to a lovely beach for coffee/tea and muffins.(Thank you Boss’s wife for the lovely home cooked muffins). Back to the plane and back to Kerikeri and then Paihia completing a wonderful afternoon.
