Catalina Island Casino
The Catalina Casino is actually not a gambling facility but venue hosting dozens of big bands during the 1930s and 1940s. At 20,000 square feet, the Catalina Casino Ballroom is the largest circular room in the world without pillars for support. The outdoor promenade encircles the ballroom and overlooks the protected cove of Avalon Bay and Descanso Beach. Our tour passes by giving great views of this breathtaking landmark.

Good experience. I wish we could get down the bus to take pics since you have to take them from the bus and if you happen to be on the other side of the view is very difficult

A fun bumpy ride. We went through town and outside town. We were able to see the bison and we saw a fox. Animals were what my daughter wanted to see, so it did not disappoint. I wish the short stops could be a bit longer for us to linger and take pictures. Guide was knowledgeable. All in all, it was a good tour.

Sergio, the tour guide, was completely making up stories. He actually said the Wrigley family made all of their money in steel! What a joke. They made their money in soap and powder products and eventually, bubble gum! He also made many incorrect statements regarding how the island changed hands. It was really sad to hear such gibberish.

Five stars for the tour company. We had been directed to the wrong waiting area for our bus tour by a restaurant waiter, yet Catalina Adventure Tours permitted us to take a later tour at no additional charge. Our guide, however, was giving his first tour, ever, and I'm giving him two stars. He couldn't remember the name of the massive modern condo complex slightly east of the historic town of Avalon ('Hamilton Cove'). He used the expression 'and what not', perhaps a hundred times, as he may have been fuzzy on other specifics. He either invented or repeated probably false gossip about Ada Wrigley (William Wrigley's wife) and Zane Grey (the famous fin-de-siecle Western author) having supposedly had an illicit relationship. From what I've read, and heard, for over 40 years, there was no love lost between the two. Gray was moody and kept his moods in balance by living outdoors as much as possible, hunting, fishing and camping. Ada Wrigley didn't understand his temperament, and thought Grey a boisterous gambler, womanizer and possible alcoholic. She may have decided the exact location for the massive chiming bell tower that she and her husband donated to the city, a century ago, primarily in order to annoy Grey, whose home (built the same year the tower was unveiled) was adjacent to the tower site. The bell pealed very loudly, every hour. As a writer, and frequent insomniac, the noise must, indeed, have been an annoyance. We love visiting Catalina Island, and appreciate the vision and natural preservation that the Wrigley family enacted. I'm sensitive to baseless gossip about its custodians.
