Swayambhunath Stupa, commonly known as the Monkey Temple, is one of the most iconic and ancient religious sites in Nepal. Perched atop a hill in western Kathmandu, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a 360-degree view of Kathmandu Valley and is revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. Dating back over 2,500 years, the central stupa features a brilliant white dome topped with a gilded spire, upon which the all-seeing eyes of Buddha gaze out in four directions. The site is adorned with prayer flags, spinning wheels, and smaller shrines and temples, reflecting a rich blend of Vajrayana Buddhist and Hindu architectural influences. The nickname “Monkey Temple” comes from the sacred monkeys that inhabit the site, adding a lively and unique character to the spiritual atmosphere. 5.00Fantastic tour. When the clouds cleared over the Chandragiri Hills, the views were incredible. Our guide Sanjina was fantastic, very knowledgeable and patient. Would definitely recommend, and we’ll definitely do this tour again when we’re next in Kathmandu!

5.00This is actually for the 7 UNESCO site day tour but that’s not an option in the drop down. With only a few days in Kathmandu, this is the way to see so much! Our guide was the amazing Asti and our driver was Biden and they were fantastic. We learned so much about Nepal history, the incredible heritage here, the history of Hinduism and had great conversations about day to day life. Asti is delightful, knowledgeable and passionate which makes for a wonderful experience. Biren handled the traffic and roads with aplomb and none of the crying or cursing I would have had. Definitely a fantastic day!
