Experience kayaking in a true naturalist’s paradise, Haines, Alaska. Begin with a seaside drive to Chilkoot Lake State Park. See important Tlingit cultural sites, a salmon-filled river, and a turquoise lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Watch for wildlife; bald eagles, brown bear, and migratory birds.Sea kayaking is easy to learn and your expert guide will show you the basics of paddling. Outfitted with the proper gear, you’ll soon be gliding silently along the shores of the lake. This pristine lake is uncrowded, and the scenery is spectacular. Huge waterfalls spill off the cliffs surrounding the lake, lush green forests crowd the shoreline, and wildlife abounds. In May, June and July, the wildflowers are at their peak and bald eagles are busy caring for their young on the nest. Beginning in July, sockeye salmon spawn in one of the clear streams. Eagle and bear are often attracted to this spot, and you’ll be able to view all the activity from your kayak. In August and September, the brown bear come down to the river’s edge to feed. Your guide will do their best to give you the bear-viewing opportunity of a lifetime, while keeping you and the bears safe.

This was so peaceful. The lake and surrounding area was beautiful. We spent a lot of time just listening to the waterfalls and breathing the clean air. The kayaking was go at your own pace and with the gear provided, we stayed completely dry. Loved the tour of the town at the end and learning more about Haines. Joe was a fantastic guide. Definitely recommend!

Me & my wife’s first time in Alaska! Haines was beautiful and the kayaking tour was a great time! The guides were knowledgeable and extroverts. They made the tour smooth and fun. We saw some breath taking views in between the mountains on a beautiful calm lake. Great excursion and very relaxing being out in nature!

Excellent tour and guides. The location is the best I've ever seen. Excellent service, and they even had snacks at the end of the event.
