What To Expect

Patagonia Austral

This full day tour will allow us to visit the northern part of the island of Chiloé. After navigating the Chacao Channel for 30 minutes, observing a great variety of birds and sea lions, we will arrive at the town of Chacao. We will head towards Ancud, then we will go 28 km to the southwest of Ancud to visit the natural monument Puñihuil islands is a wild area protected by the State, where fishermen have joined and transformed tourism by conducting guided tours, navigation services and restaurants . To see a colony of Humboldt and Magellanic penguins it is necessary to take a boat (navigation not included) along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. We will continue touring the island, passing through a long lonely beach where we will see the ocean in all its splendor. Upon our return we will visit the second most populated in Chiloé, Ancud city where we will visit its square, the market, the craft fair, the friends of the churches foundation and the famous San Antonio fort.

It was a great and very informative trip. Ingrid is super knowledgeable guide - she probably knows all the birds in that island and Orland is a super careful driver. Penguins are super great part of the trip. And churches … yes in case of any doubts Ingrid would tell you all you need to know. Fantastic experience. Our kids loved it!

Very good tour, our guide took us to Chiloe island. It started raining we took a scenic route to Andy’s. There we toured a church and a museum. The penguin tour got cancelled but we still went to the beach where we take the boat to see the Penguins and there on the rocks we did see many of them. Overall both the guide and the driver showed us a great time despite the bad weather. Thanks so much!

An extended day trip that is more than worth it for the unique experience of seeing Humbolt and Magellanic Penguins in the natural habitat. Coupled with a highly informative guide that kept us engaged the entire trip and a few interesting stops on the way there and back will not leave you waiting. All made possible for me by the excellent team at Patagonia Austral. I will definitely be going back and Patagonia Austral will be my first choice for arranging local excursions.

Javier was an excellent driver and guide, fluent English, humorous and full of knowledge. We enjoyed the ferry to Chiloe and the touring on the island as well as the boat trip to the penguins.

The tour to Chiloé was very nice. The landscapes and places we could know are must-see stops in Chile. It's definitely the cutest thing in the South. It wouldn't have been the same without our guide Carlos. He made the path and the adventure fun and relaxed, I thank him for sharing with us the history of the place and answering our questions, he allowed us to go with the music that we will like the most and talked a lot about the folklore of the Island and Puerto Varas. It definitely enlivened the trip as few do. We were very lucky to have him as our guide. The place he took us to eat was also delicious. I recommend this tour 100%!! Greetings from Mexico.

Short boat ride from the beach, but plenty to see. Loads of wildlife. Penguins are the star, both Magellenic and Humboldt, but plenty of other birds to see. Definitely worth the stop. Plenty of restaurants on the beach for a meal.
