We had a pretty bizarre experience finding our hotel - on the 15th floor of an office building, filled with smoke - and were disoriented plus a bit overwhelmed by the swarming area we were staying, so this could not have been a better way to break through it all, get oriented, and regain our excitement about all the cool things to do and see in Chongqing. Our guide knew exactly where to find us and came knocking on our door. We walked over to the night market and she wove us through the sights and crowds like a pro. She pointed out and explained what differentiates this city from all the others in China and by the end of the tour we felt like we had a pretty good sense of the local vibe. Of all the things we saw - expedited by the best driver I've ever experienced anywhere in the world - standing at the point where the rivers meet and looking along the never ending banks of buildings sporting elaborate light displays was as magical and gigantic as Petra. We've lived in some of the biggest cities and have traveled China, but this city is beyond imagination in scope and scale. And the hot pot dinner... the BEST. We were so sweaty and satiated and silly by the end. Great food and great company. Not to be missed!
