Fagradalsfjall Volcano
Witness the active volcanic eruption of Fagradalsfjall volcano in Geldingadalur valley. Join this life-time experience to see lava pouring in spectacular molten rivers or spurting high in the air… A guided hike to be as close as possible to this raw and powerful phenomenon.
Kleifarvatn Lake
The largest and deepest lake in this part of Iceland. The lake sits on a highly active volcanic fissure zone. The lake is surrounded by black sand shores and volcanic mountains. After the series of earthquakes in 2000, the lake began to disappear into a large fissure created by one of the earthquakes : an enigmatic phenomenon… Summer houses that were once mere steps from waterfront are now more than a kilometer away from the water’s edge. The placid waters have dropped more than four meters during the following year. In their place is a barren lake bed speckled with sulphur-rimmed thermal springs that spit boiling water and mud.

Interesting tour with excellent guide but NOT WHAT WAS ADVERTISED

4.00When we booked this tour we were excited that we were going to be able to witness an active, erupting volcano, which what is advertised in the description. The day before the tour we received an email telling us that the volcano had stopped erupting and so it was not possible to see any flowing lava, as was advertised. We were given the option to cancel but decided to continue because we assumed it had only just stopped erupting and wanted to see the other sites on the tour and we had limited time in Iceland to rearrange. Our guide, Adam, picked us up from our hotel and we found that we were the only ones, because the others had cancelled, so it made a very special, personal tour. Adam was great - he was very knowledgeable about the recent volcano which he told us had erupted for around 6 months last year, ending in November 2021. That means that when we booked it (April 2022) for our visit in June 2022 it had stopped for several months. Adam was very apologetic but it was hardly his fault and he had warned us the day before. He showed us his videos and photos that he had taken during the 6 months' eruption and took us to the end of the most recent lava flow. THE TOUR IS STILL BEING DESCRIBED AS: "Witness the active volcanic eruption of Fagradalsfjall volcano in Geldingadalur valley. Join this life-time experience to see lava pouring in spectacular molten rivers or spurting high in the air… A guided hike to be as close as possible to this raw and powerful phenomenon." THIS IS COMPLETELY MISLEADING

5.00Adam was an amazing, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable guide. Took care of us while hiking a mountain during snowstorms and high winds and always made sure we were safe and OK. Made unplanned, unexpected stops to some beautiful sites just so that we could take great pictures. Definitively recommend, you will not be disappointed. Hoping to one day return and do the highlands. We’ll be booking with Adam for sure!
Dress warm, you never know what the weather will do and enjoy the experience.

5.00Adam's tour of the Reykjanes Peninsula and the guided volcano hike were spectacular. He is knowledgeable; communicates very clearly, and is exceptionally well prepared. He picked us up at our hotel in his spotless vehicle and we set out for a long day of adventure. We benefited from Adam's close monitoring of the volcano to allow for the best views. He was flexible and attentive to our wishes. I could not have asked for a better experience It was very easy to book the tour through the website. Try Iceland was responsive and helpful throughout the process. We had such a great time in Iceland, but this tour may have been the best experience.

5.00Our day with Adam was wonderful! He knows so much about Iceland and its geology. and was happy to share all his knowledge with us. He took us to see many natual wonders in the Reykjavik peninsula, including sulfur pools, geysers, cliffs populated by sea gulls and puffins. Highlight was to climb up a mountain to get a beautiful view of the Geldinadalur volcano. We wore out before Adam did! We definitely recommend touring with Adam of Try Iceland Tours. I wish I would have booked him for the the whole trip!
