Welcome to Tahiti Safari Islander,
We will go to the heart of the island of Tahiti. You will be able to see beautiful mountains, waterfalls and natural pools.
You can enjoy a beautiful panorama while sitting in a new and comfortable 4x4 open to the sky and equipped with local music in the back. If the weather is nice we will go swimming in the natural pools and if it rains we will be able to appreciate the multitude of waterfalls. We are waiting for you to help you discover this Polynesian treasure.
BE CAREFUL the road is very uneven.
There are 37 km to cover in the mountains. The road is not cemented, not tarred. If you don't feel able to do it, please do another quieter excursion like the tour of the island of Tahiti

Wow Amazing! If you get a chance do this tour. I know everyone loves the ocean but when in Tahiti Island do this tour. It is truly a Jungle Safari tour minus the animals but the beauty of nature and the construction of this wonderful island is amazing and beautiful. Viator was a great guide stopping for photos long enough and giving us the background information of the culture.

An action packed day of adventure. We had the perfect day in Papeete and the weather couldn’t have been better. The views were amazing and our lunch stop and swim was perfect. The perfect way to spend a day getting to see the island from the inside out 👌😊

Stunning views all along the way, with lots of waterfalls as well. Yes, its bumpy, believe the warnings! But its also part of the fun, and we had a great adventure. Go see the interior, which 99% of visitors never experience!

This was so much fun! The road was bumpy. But the truck was really comfortable. We stood the whole time. What a great way to see the interior of the island. So many waterfalls!

The tour was very good but I felt been cheated for paying $80 usd 10 minutes ride from Mahana Lodge to PPT airport with our two carry-on size luggage. Specially when we arrived at Mahana Lodge (we were the last couple for drop-off) I asked multiple times how much it would cost for him to give us a ride to the airport and I will pay him now and he (the tour operator) replied very friendly, not to worry, not to worry, no traffic now, pay me at the airport. After arriving at the airport I asked him how much do I owe you, he said 8000xpf or 80usd, no choice now but to pay :(

Such a great tour! Beautiful landscape and a great activity for a day in Papeete. Lots of great local knowledge and stories shared. Yes it’s bumpy and you’ll come back a little bruised but completely off the beaten track and worth it.

So cool! This was a unique way to see a different side of Tahiti. We drove through town to get to a dirt road and then took dirt roads and 4x4 trails through the mountains. We saw beautiful waterfalls, amazing flora and fauna, eels, chickens, got to cool off in the river and eat a picnic lunch (they stop in the morning and you can purchase food from a bakery to take for the picnic). Mato was a great guide and we had a great time! I took too many pictures and videos. Take their suggestions for bug spray and sunblock seriously. Got a little burned and got bug bites because I forgot to reapply

Wow - what an experience! Our driver was Mato - friendly and very experienced and safety oriented, - you’ll understand why this is important when you go. This is not a ride for the meek, those with fear of heights, or who need to be pampered. The views were spectacular and at every turn. Because the road is so basic (single passage, mostly gravel/rock/boulders, potholes (small - craters), extremely steep (some grades more than 20 or 25%), tons of stream and other water crossings, and because there is so much to see, it is at a pleasant slow pace (you wouldn’t want to go faster even if you thought you could). We stopped at a nice place beside a river for a refreshing swim and lunch (you bring your own), and Mato had fresh, naturally ripened fruit for us as well. As we expected, it rained up at higher altitudes in the mountains (bring a rain jacket with a hood, don’t bring anything you don’t want to get wet unless you bring a small dry bag to keep it in (small: there is not a lot of room - 8 people sitting knee to knee in the back of a pickup that has benches on each side.). When not on the main Papeete roads leading to the mountains, everyone stands on the bench seats (barefoot-no shoes), holding on to the ‘roof-rack’ bars that run down the middle and each side of the truck. It’s actually pretty comfortable standing (you definitely want to stand to be able to see well) because Mato took the time to slowly navigate the road obstacles, and there is so much to see, and all the jostling keeps you flexing leg/core muscles. In a nutshell - my wife and I would/will definitely recommend this adventure (rain and all) and would definitely book it again if we are fortunate enough to return to this beautiful island.
