The Petrópolis x Teresópolis Travessia is one of the most appreciated hikes in Brazil, receiving visitors from all over the world and from Brazil who come to Rio de Janeiro exclusively to know it.

It takes place inside the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, where you will be able to appreciate the constant change of the Atlantic Forest scenery during the whole hike.

It has many steep climbs that will reveal interesting visuals and is not recommended for those with heart problems, but it is not impossible to do, since we offer the option to do it in 2 or just 1 day, for those who have long walking habits.

What To Expect

Day 1

Your hotel (in Rio de Janeiro) x National Park x Castelos do Açu Shelter

Accommodations

Overnight in the shelter of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, in a bivouac or bed, according to the availability of the day.

Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgaos

Hotel x Parque: approximately 2 hours by car. Park x Shelter: approximately 6 hours of walking. This will be the first day of hiking and the goal will be the Abrigo dos Castelos do Açú where we will spend the first night. There will be 7-8km climbing all the time, with a duration of 4-6 hours of hiking, depending on the pace of the group. The shelter has a kitchen and you will have all the equipment you need to prepare your food (dinner or breakfast). You will need a sleeping bag or you can rent with us. On the way to get there, you will have contact with the beauties of the National Park and will be able to appreciate the smell and the colors that the forest will present you. You can see unique and charming rock formations.

Day 2

Castles of Açu Shelter x Shelter of Bell

Accommodations

Overnight in the shelter of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, in a bivouac or bed, according to the availability of the day.

Pedra do Sino

This corresponds to the destination of the second day of walking. There will be 11km going up and down several times over hills with incredible views. This hike lasts around 5-7 hours. The shelter has a kitchen and you will have all the equipment you need to prepare your food (dinner or breakfast). You will need to have a sleeping bag or you can rent with us.

Day 3

Abrigo do Sino x National Park Ordinance x Your Hotel (in Rio de Janeiro)

Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgaos

Shelter x Park: approximately 4 hours of walking. Parque x Seu Hotel (in Rio de Janeiro): approximately 2 hours by car. This corresponds to the destination of the third day: the National Park ordinance, in Teresópolis. It will be 11-13km going down all the time, in a very quiet walk. The distance varies according to the day of the week, as on some days the park provides transportation from the trail end to the park entrance.
