One of the highlights of our trip to Dominica was a private tour of the 3700-acre territory of the Kalinago, the indigenous people of the Caribbean. They are also called the Caribs and this area is protected and cherished by the 3000 people who live there. I've attached a photo of my wife and I with our tour guide, Lorenzo Sanford, who was the Kalinago Chief from 2019-2024. He was the youngest Chief in Dominica’s history and was just 22 years old at the time of the election. Lorenzo was instrumental in rebuilding the territory after the destruction of Hurricane Maria. I've also included one of the many amazing views of the Kalinago Territory.

Very interesting to see the indigenous community in Dominica! A great day with incredibly lovely guide who is a key player in building his community. Wonderful! Don't miss it if you want to experience and engage with the local, indigenous perspective. Amazing views of the Atlantic from the Kalinago region.

The Kalinago people are warm and welcoming. The scenery blew us away. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide, he was amazing and wise beyond his years !

We toured the Territory with Lorenzo, a former Chief. It was so interesting. My 2 grandchildren, both 18, really enjoyed it as well. We learned a lot and had a great time doing it. In addition, Lorenzo had arranged for a driver for me for the 2 weeks we were there. I sent a list of all the excursions we had booked, and we were picked up and returned on time for everything. It made our entire trip effortless.

Looking to immerse ourselves into the rich culture of the Kalinago, we wisely chose a tour with Chief Lorenzo. We visited more obscure places on the reserve and learned about the lore and livelihood of the first people of Dominica. We feasted on fruits while walking common trails and learned about how tradition and progress are balanced in this unique community. We highly recommend this tour with Lorenzo and look forward to another visit to this beautiful country.
