Amber Bay is known as one of the first places where amber was found in 1855, when the Curonian Lagoon was deepened. Today, reed sculptures are created here for Joninės, a Lithuanian midsummer celebration, and later burned during the autumn equinox festival.

We were delighted with this day trip, both for the beauty of the site and for the quality of the local guide, who was not only a very good driver but also a very good storyteller and introduced us to the many facets of this unspoilt place where he has lived since childhood.

The trip was well organized and covered the key sites in the Curonian Spit. Lunchtime was a little rushed, but otherwise all good.
