If you want to understand better the Balkans with all its complexity, rich history and colorful mixture of different cultures and habits, we recommend you to visit Nis with us. During this day tour you will travel through history with the professional lead of your guide. Our journey through time will start from the Roman period, when Nis gave to the world one great man – The Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. Then we will continue through the Middle Ages and the period of Ottoman rule which left constructions like the Nis Fortress and the Skull Tower – a symbol of the struggle for freedom and independence from the Ottomans. In the end we will pay attention to the Modern history and the period of Nazi occupation of former Yugoslavia, visiting the Nazi Concentration Camp. Of course after all the impressions that you get, it will be time for some rest. You will have the chance to taste the famous Serbian cuisine - one of the most delicious on the Balkans.

Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Sofia at 08:30 am. After approximately 2 hours of drive, we will reach our first sight – Medijana archaeological park, which is a Roman Imperial residence, nowadays closed due to renovation.
Skull Tower
Our next stop will be the Skull Tower, known also as Cale kula. The tower is now a museum dedicated to the Bulgarians and the Serbs who took part in the revolt against the Ottoman Empire. It was built from the Turks and constructed with the skulls of the killed rebellions. The idea of this act was to warn others what will happen if they revolt again.

Great day - our guide Theodore went out of his way to accommodate 6 women who all wanted different things! (coffee, souvenirs and many toilet stops). He was incredibly knowledgeable and sensitive to some of the more challenging themes that appeared throughout the day. Amazing recommendation for lunch and overall a brilliant experience. We would definitely recommend.

Was unsure about taking this trip but glad we ended up taking it . Nis is an amazing town with a lot to see. The guide, Demo, was personable and accommodating, the highlights were visiting Constantine’s villa and the skull tower. Fascinating how much history is there. You won’t regret taking this tour.

Always wanted to visit Niš as I’ve been all over Serbia apart from this one city so it was great to be able to do a day trip from Bulgaria. The guide was great and very knowledgeable, especially about the history so I learned a lot. Thanks again!

From start to finish the whole day was really excellent. It was our last day in Bulgaria and we wanted to go and see Serbia. We were collected from our hotel by Dimo who was really great and looked after us all very well. We had a lovely vehicle with6 passengers and Dimo. The bus was spotless and really comfortable. We sat in 3rd row which was really roomy and plenty of headroom etc. The 2 hour drive was good with one comfort break about halfway. Our first stop was a former concentration camp which was very sad of course but very interesting. We then visited The Tower of Skulls which is literally that. Once again sad but interesting. Well worth the visits. We then went into Niš which is a fortress town on a large river. We had a quick look at the fortress and then around the town for a quick tour before being given free time to choose somewhere to eat lunch. A good choice of restaurants and street cafes and we had a decent lunch. Back to the Fortress over the bridge for a few souvenirs the back to meeting point for ride home. Similar journey on way back with one comfort stop. Throughout the day Dimo was very courteous and helpful especially to me as I needed help to get in and out of the vehicle, he was also great with his knowledge and history et All in all great trip with great driver and nice people. Would highly recommend Bultrips after our two days out with them 10/10

This was the perfect itinerary on a cloudy and rainy day. Our guide Ivan handled the border crossings efficiently and provided a wealth of information with regards to the history of the region from the Romans in 50 AD to the Soviets in 1945 AD.

Very interesting trip to a beautiful country, guide was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. While some parts of the trip are significant in local history, they are not for the faint hearted.
