The trip was super long, but so worth it! We would do it again for sure and highly recommend. Day trip involved a pick up at our hotel, breakfast, crossing the border into Nicaragua with great help from our guide Sandino who was an independent tour guide through Nexus. We stopped in Caterina a small town on top of a volcanic lake, Masaya Volcano Park to see the active volcano, lunch in a local restaurant which was delicious. I'm sorry to say I didn't get the name of it, by the time we had lunch we were so tired, hot and hungry it just slipped my mind but it was really good! We took the horse and buggy ride through Granada which if I had to do the trip again we would walk. The ride was fine, but we didn't really know what points of interest we should see and just ended up everywhere and nowhere. by walking we might not have seen the whole town, but it would have given time to see a few key places. The last part of the trip was a nice boat ride in the large lake that the town is on. Its the largest fresh water lake in Central America and has over 300 islands. We saw just a small part, but it was beautiful. After the boat ride we hiked it back to Costa Rica and back to our hotel. All said the tour was about 16 hours. Very long like I said but very worth it.

This day trip to the waterfall was an amazing experience, from taking a canoe boat into the jungle & hiking up to the waterfall! We also experienced a delicious lunch and show with a local tribe, I highly recommend this trip. ITA set everything up for us & it was 👌 perfect.

We visited La Cascada Blanca located in Matagalpa on a Sunday afternoon. To start, it is only 30 minutes away from Matagalpa by car. The road is in very good condition and the view is breath taking. The place is very ecological, full of beautiful vegetation, trees, plants, flowers... not to mention its cleanness. I recommend you bring sports shoes with you cause the climb down to the cascade can be muddy. The view of the cascade and it's surroundings its amazing. Just beautiful to watch, to enjoy peacefully the greatness of nature. Water is clear and cold. You can bring your swimming suit and bathe if you want to. I highly recommend to spend an afternoon at Cascada Blanca to relax yourself and enjoy Matagalpa.
