Lahemaa National Park is a place with breathtaking landscapes and unspoilt nature. You can find beautiful peninsulas and bays, forests and beaches, waterfalls and bogs seasoned with rich cultural history. This day trip is perfect for spending a day out of Tallinn.
The first stop on the way is Jägala waterfall, after which you will have a picturesque walk in Viru bog. You will go on the boardwalk leading to observation tower where you can admire how the unique vegetation is contrasting the clear bog pools. Next stop is Sagadi OR Palmse Manor, where you can learn about the legacy of German land-owners living in the Estonian countryside for centuries. The last visit is to either Käsmu OR Altja village which are unique as they represents the architecture of our fishing villages as they were before the estblishment of coastal border zone during the Soviet times. NB! The order of the activities may differ.
During the tour there's a lunch break (not included in the price).

What To Expect
Jagala Waterfall
Jägala waterfall is the highest natural waterfall in Estonia which is dropping down from 8 metres high limestone cliff. Your guide will explain you how the waterfall was formed and you will have a chance to see the waterfall from higher ground or walk down by the river closer to the waterfall. It is an amazing photo opportunity with the falls and lush green forest around.
Viru Bog Trail
Viru bog trail is easy to walk as it starts along a smooth forest path and leads to a boardwalk passing the bog. You will reach the viewing platform or tower in the middle of the bog where you can oversee most of the bog with its clear bog pools. In the summer, when it's warm, you can swim in these bog pools (bring your swimming gear). Mosquito repellent could be brought along (summer season).

5.00Great tour from beginning to end. Our guide, Christof, was very knowledgeable about the sites we visited and even gave information about the local plants and vegetation. It’s a full day and recommend dressing extra warm if going in winter. Overall, a wonderful experience and glad we got to see parts of Estonia outside of Tallinn.

5.00Christof was our guide on this really fun tour. He was funny, informative, and helpful to curate the tour to our needs. It’s a great way to see other parts of Estonia besides Tallin, even in winter! I would recommend dressing even warmer than you think you need because the wind is cold!

5.00It was a full day tour from 9.30am to 4.30pm or slightly later if we took a little more time. Kristo was patient in his approach, good sense of humour and gave us space to explore when needed. We had a stopover break at a restaurant / cafe for lunch. We joined in 4 others in the group. We had time to explore 4 places at a comfortable pace, with 1.5hr time to head back at the end. The places were good recommendation. We love the visit to the bog. We also get different views of Jagala Waterfalls, all thanks to Kristo's guiding!

5.00First of all I would like to say that Viator, among the three I had consulted for the exact same excursion, was the only one that allowed me to book despite being alone. All the others required the booking of at least two people: an absurdity considering that you can join other people while being alone, as in fact happened to me. The excursion began, ended and lasted as described and included everything as scheduled. Andreas, our guide, is very prepared, nice and company. He told us so much about Estonia and areas we saw passing by, even if not included in the program. The landscapes and attractions visited are definitely worthwhile. Lunch was fantastic: local dishes, cheap and delicious. All top!

5.00Despite the absolutely dreadful weather, this was a really great day trip to get some fresh air and see some of Estonia outside of Tallinn. Our guide was fantastic and we stopped for a lunch that serves rotating traditional Estonian dishes which was a nice add. Viru Bog is very unique and I imagine the Altja coast is just as pretty. Great day out! For those of you who are serious hikers - this is no more than a nature walk on a very well manicured boardwalk. It's beautiful nonetheless!

5.00We had an excellent day out exploring Lahemaa National Park with Tõnis. He was extremely knowledgeable about all things Estonia and you can tell he is an avid outdoorsman with lots of knowledge about the flora and fauna of the region. The tour included a visit to the quaint captain’s town of Kasma along with a walk along the shore, a guided hike on the Viru trail, and a visit to the Sagadi Manor. We also visited a number of very cool waterfalls. Note - this company runs the tour even with just two people. Other companies listed on Viator do not. Highly recommend an ask for Tõnis, you will not be disappointed.

5.00Enjoyed a lovely day trip from Tallinn - Jagala waterfall (not much rain so not too impressive), then on to Laheema for a bog walk. Very beautiful and relaxing - took our time and an easy walk. Nice traditional lunch. Käsmu seaside village was a lovely stop. Our guide Epp was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Would recommend if you want to get out of Tallinn and experience the countryside.
