What To Expect

Chaiya Mangalaram Thai Buddhist Temple

Your driver will pick you up from your respective hotel or cruise terminal to proceed with the city Tour. Firstly you will visit Wat Chayamangkalaram Temple where the 4th longest Reclining Buddha Statue is found.

Dhammikarama Burmese Temple

Right across the road you may also visit the Dhammikarama Burmese Temple which holds a Buddha statue standing at 8.2 meters, making it the tallest in Malaysia. The existence of these two temples is due to the early settlement of the Thai and Burmese community in the early 1800s.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable. He showed to u the best of Penang. We enjoyed his company. He also advised us the local restaurant which served authentic food. It was delicious.

We had a wonderful day with our driver Kris. We were able to customize the entire day with some great input from him. Kris answered our many questions and shared a lot about living in Malaysia. We enjoyed his stories and humour while also seeing many sights on the island. It was like visiting with a longtime friend. It was a most enjoyable day.
I would never book again. Price/performance not right!!!

Were picked up at the port at 8:30 by driver. Had to go pretty far to his car. Driver was very nice. We were too early for 1. Museum, did not open until 1 hour later, the same at the 2. Museum. So we went to litel India. All still closed. Was fun to stroll through a shopping street without great info. Driver was waiting for us at the end of the long road. Admissions to museum are not incl. figures only cash. Only from 4 pers. with card. I would not book ahead in the future, but on arrival take taxi or rickshaw for a few hours.
Beware - this is not a tour! !

This was a terrible experience. We booked this tour after reading the excellent reviews. When we arrived at the cruise terminal after leaving the ship there was nobody with a sign with our names on it. It took us 20 minutes to find our ‘guide’. Turns out that he was only a taxi driver. So we set off in a private car with a driver who, it became immediately apparent had poor English and told us he had been given instructions to take us to 4 places. After five minutes we said we wanted to cancel this booking and get a full refund as it was clearly unsuitable and it was not what we were expecting. The driver contacted the agent who refused our refund request as it stated in the fine print ‘that there was no guide only a driver provided’ - in spite of being charged €106! The driver also took a selfie picture in the car without asking our permission to be in it. While the lesson learned here is to fully see what you are getting beyond just reading the reviews, it feels very sharp practice to hide behind T&C’s to take our money. We subsequently appealed to Viator who couldn’t redress our specific issues. This listing ‘as a tour’ is wholly misrepresentative and is just a taxi ride. Beware.

Excellent guide who was very knowledgeable and flexible to suit our interest. He made sure we experienced important historical sites and didn’t miss the tour times.
