We will meet here and discuss our first topic of the tour: Lafayette--the most catholic city in America! We'll discuss the history of how the Acadians made there way to Louisiana and how that translates into the modern term "Cajun" we know today.
Next to the Cathedral is the St. John Cathedral Live Oak. This 500 year oak tree is where we'll discuss the tale of Evangeline and Gabriel, the cajun Romeo and Juliet.

Great afternoon and our tour guide, CASSIE was the best!. Shared sooo much history of this area, that we both knew little of prior to our visit. She even shared a great list of things available to do and see while we are here! Glad we scheduled a guided walking tour!

This walking tour of Lafayette stands out as one of the very best I've experienced—even after going on at least two dozen tours. Cassie, our guide, is exceptional; a local resident who clearly loves her city, she truly captures the spirit and culture of Lafayette, allowing you to see it through a local’s perspective. I felt fortunate to explore Cajun culture alongside her. Fluent in French, she skillfully interprets over 300 years of Lafayette's and the Acadian people's history. Cassie is unafraid to address complex topics like Reconstruction and Jim Crow, guiding us through significant societal changes during the civil rights era, highlighting the enduring energy of Cajun culture today, and discussing Lafayette's remarkable development throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.
